And/or one of those sound emitters that emit horrible sounds that only young ears can hear. The good thing is that when they tell their parents about "the horrible noise", the parents won't be able to hear anything and will think the kids are making it up! :rotfl:

i remember we discussed this years ago how shopping malls use lighting that enhances acne visibility (and reduces drug addicts ability to find veins to inject) plus also the fact that adults how don't like musak can just switch their emotional response to it off mentally while youngsters don't actually run their emotions and have to experience them in all their horror.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I still don't know how it happened as I am so so careful about the cable, taking it to OCD proportions (as I am OCD about electricity and fire) with trying to avoid cutting the cables, so still perplexed as to how I managed it.

It wasn't a trailing part of the cable (which was safely looped behind me and away from danger), it was right up near the top, the only thing I can think of is that it got caught on a small branch as I moved the hedge trimmer and as it was so close to where it enters the machine, it was not so easily noticed that a tiny part was caught.

My parent's were ok about it, mum's done it before. It was my first time and I have handled many many tools with cables in the past without incident...well apart from bashing knees, legs, falling over them etc but never cutting the bloody cable :rotfl:

'Cause kids haven't had kids yet. I quickly learned to block out the sound of almost anything :o. Musak wouldn't register in my consciousness. I used to be able to do work in the middle of a soft play centre for about two hours, then I'd suddenly lose the will to live :o

Times that by a 100 for an autistic child/adult already experiencing sensory overload and it is no wonder they go into meltdowns in shopping centres.

I've actually found that I have become more sensitive to noises as I have got older. A crying baby is no longer cute, it feels like nails on a blackboard and a toddler in full tantrum mode is extremely annoying and there was me thinking I would be one of the more tolerant older people when it came to that....nope!

I haven't been to the cinema for aeons. Since the sound systems became so boomy, in fact. I really don't understand why they have to be so incredibly loud. It spoils it, so I don't go. Sometimes even the speech is so boomy that it becomes a bit muffled. :(
The boominess, plus the disgusting array of neon-coloured snacks, plus the darkness too. :(
Even before the sound systems changed, I didn't really like the darkness, especially if I was seeing a film in the daytime.

The whole cinema experience is not a good one for me. I usually wait for the film to come onto the TV! :D

Better than cinemas are the little local theatres that sometimes put on films. That experience is often far less boomy. I still have the darkness problem, though.

    (DQWD deleted).

It seems it's ok to take devices in hand-luggage unless you're coming back from one of 6 middle eastern countries, so I'm pretty sure I'm ok to do that, unless anyone knows anything different?

I have checked websites, but it doesn't specifically say 'yes you can take them on this flight', only that 'you can't take them on that flight', so I still worry.

Could you ring the airline to check?

Well, I did look on their website, which is very difficult to find stuff on, (it's not BA), and what I found was what I said in previous post, i.e. that you can't take them in hand luggage flying from the 6 countries.

Perhaps I will try phoning, although even if I find a number, I'll probably be out on hold for ages.

I'll see if I can find a number.
Edit..... yes, and as I suspected, it's an 0871 number.

By the way, would you mind deleting the quote of my post? Thanks! :)

Don't worry, I've done similar! I can't see the wood for the trees sometimes! :rotfl:

Well, I did ring the airline, and I was holding on to their 0871 number for over 15 minutes before someone answered. :(
Anyway, my iPad is good to go in hand luggage.
I decided to upgrade my luggage allowance, as this airline isn't as generous as BA, and I've heard terrible tales of charges for excess baggage at the airport. I have to take several 'just in case' items, which is a pain, but if I'm feeling a bit unwell, I'm glad to have them.
My luggage scales are ok, but you never know just how accurate they are, and it's quite difficult for me to lift the case by way of the scales.
I tried weighing items before packing them, but that total ended up right on the original allowance, whereas when I weighed the filled case, it registered 2kg less.
Anyway, I decided to buy the extra 5kg to be on the safe side; I thought for the sake of £6 I wouldn't have to worry, and it means that if I want to buy anything to bring home, I've got some wriggle room.

Anyway, sorting out me buying the extra 5kg took another 20 minutes..... I was put on hold twice, for ages, because I didn't understand what she was telling me. Eventually I sussed it out. I reckon that phone call has cost me another 5kg on top of what I bought! :(

My boarding pass still gives the lower allowance though, although I was sent an email with the new allowance on it.

Sheesh! Am worn out now! I need a holiday! :D
