Awful lot of anti-ibuprofen stuff in the press recently. Much better to use paracetemol if it works at all.
Fact of Life: Whatever you do .... some bugg4h will crawl out of the woodwork to tell you "Oh, if I were you I'd have done something entirely different. You're so wrong.... bad person. Fancy not knowing that."
As I'm likely to have those 16 over the next 4-5 years ... I doubt any "problems" with them will manifest themselves.
I've got them "in case", might not use them.
That's five whole shillings! Daylight robbery.
I remember when 2/6 would buy you a "large bag of chips, for a whole family to share"!
I also remember the shocking price rise when there was a spuds shortage and a single bag of chips went up to 15p / 3 shillings!0 -
It was a sixpenn'orth by the time I was old enough to buy my own after Guides on a Friday night! :rotfl:(I just lurve spiders!)

Pastures, a lot of people find that the use of ice packs, (see # 11396) if done properly, works a lot, lot better than either NSAIDS (ibuprofen) or paracetamol.
It could be worth a try. :A
I know you don't have a very big freezer, so that might be a problem. The fridge wouldn't be cold enough, and the 'freeze sprays' don't really penetrate to the spine - it's too deep.(I just lurve spiders!)

Pastures With you sort of pain you have, I would go for ibuprofen because it damps down inflammation, while paracetamol doesn't.
Sue Joe is just amazing
Lydia Best wishes to your DS. And I know exams are stressful enough for you as a teacher, never mind as a parent; a friend used to be a Classics teacher, and I remember her saying "When exam time comes round, they look at you with big anxious eyes and you just want to take the exam for them so that they don't have to worry!"0 -

I'll live..... I don't really fancy the faff of freezer/cold stuff etc right now. I do actually have one of those "blue liquid sealed bottles" people put into chiller bags... so no need to waste peas... ibuprofen because it damps down inflammation, while paracetamol doesn't.0 -

For me the heat packs have always worked better than ice. I remember walking about with a scarf holding a heat pack to my neck just to get through the few days until the chiropractor could fix me. Often the same object can be used as either hot or cold, but to heat it up you don't need any freezer space!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Thank you. For the first few years of teaching I used to have recurring dreams around exam times that were always about having to retake my degree finals and then being in the wrong place or not having a pen or similar. TBH the teacher side does get less stressful with time - after 20 years I don't find their exams anything like as scary as I used to. Particularly this year. I can't beat last year's GCSE performance (18 students, 18 A*s) and in any case my set this year aren't quite as good as that. I know they'll do OK in the exams and be OK to go on studying next year, so I'm feeling quite chilled about them.PasturesNew wrote: »Now I feel like a naughty child for not doing that, though you said to earlier.

That probably wouldn't work very well for an ice pack, I'm afraid, PN. You need something non-rigid that will mould to your body - which is why people recommend peas over, say, carrots. But you can get a similar blue gel-filled bag that's squishy, and then reuse it as many times as you need - either for ice or for heat.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? DS seems to be coping better than me, too. Such a relief - after all, if I'm stressed it doesn't stop him concentrating, and considering he has an anxiety related disorder I was worried he might be so anxious as to be unable to function at all, but he seems all right. No exams today, but he's gone into school for a couple of revision sessions. They have optional revision sessions for different subjects every day, and he's going to all the ones for his subjects (unless they clash with exams, of course).
As for Joe's work... you need significant talent AND hours and hours of hard work to do that well in most subjects. I imagine I'm not the only NP who feels just a little bit vicariously proud of such an admirable Nice Offspring.
That's five whole shillings! Daylight robbery.
Unless you're DS. Any form of paracetamol makes him vomit. Immediately and copiously. If he'd eaten berries as a child I'd have given him Calpol as an emetic! Recently I've been happy to find a cold and flu medicine with decongestant etc that's ibuprofen based rather than paracetamol based, so he can have them.
Oh believe me, it has taken hours and hours of work. His view is that a social life can wait, college work and his education comes first....lost a potential girlfriend over that stance as she annoyed him when she said college work can wait and he can take her out instead, he stopped talking to her in disgust:rotfl:
In each unit there are several tasks that need to be done, for Joe, each task has a minimum of 2000 words with some tasks coming in at over 6000 words (quite a few others will do much less). Over an entire unit we are talking many many thousands of words as he likes to take it to the nth degree and make sure every bit of information is there. He doesn't take shortcuts, he doesn't do it in a half hearted manner, it is given his all.
That said, he is bored and cannot wait to be stretched at uni, hence the other projects he does (building new maps and levels for computer games, research and papers in political history, politics and his new one, psychology). He has a quest to learn, to keep his brain busy as a way to cope with the sensory overload he gets when out and about in general life....it calms him and enables him to cope with the outside world.
I always knew he was my brightest one, it was just convincing everyone else and finding the right 'key' to unlock the door and gets those shutters open. They had been partially open at high school, shut during his GCSE years but opened fully when he started at college and finally had the right setting to suit his needs.
Re paracetamol, I am another one who vomits if they take it.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

oh dear!
Sorry , Pastures........ I just have to help, as I can't bear to think of you being in pain......I should have included this in the other post, but didn't want to hit you with too much info........
If that's a solid type of ice pack, it won't be as good, partly because it won't mould into your back and partly because it will feel really uncomfortable. The soft gel ones are much better. I wonder if Poundland do any? Ideally they need to be around 8" x6", but any size will do if you can't get that one.
Frozen peas can be re-used over and over; just remember not to eat them.
Edit. Sorry....crossed with Lydia's post.(I just lurve spiders!)
