Once thieves hack into these things that tell you what stuff you've got and where it is .... they'll be able to easily compile a list of who has the most stuff ... and see when they're out :)

    Indeed - as the BBC has demonstrated, even voice recognition isn't foolproof;

Talking of phones, I'm toying with two providers for a smart phone. As I've never had a smart one before, how do I decide how many Gb to go for?

If it has an expandable memory, then you can add more later.

I've managed perfectly well with 16Gb on my iPhone. Unless you are going to watch and/or store a lot of video that should be enough.

I would, if it were on my list of devices!

You'd have to give me all its details, but then you'd have to kill me!

Interesting question, actually. Would it work with a non-Apple device?

If it is android there are two memory numbers and the smaller one is quite important 1GB is not enough, it will soon start going very slowly. 2GB is fine, 3GB is more future proof.

Of course an andoid phone costs 50% less than an apple product with the same features and doesn't tie you in to the overpriced apple infrastructure so is obviously much less popular in ripped off Britain.
    I think....

It would be an Apple. I've never ever used anything else but AppleMac, ever, so don't really want to start anything different now! Besides, I like the relative 'safety' of the Apple OS.
That voice recognition flaw was scary! Even more reason why I won't do internet banking unless I'm forced to.

It would be an iPhone SE that comes as part of a package, but you can opt to buy it upfront and pay less per month. You have the option of buying more Gb for a bit extra, hence my wondering what I'd need.

I wouldn't stream or store videos. Might watch TV if that's possible, but only in 'extreme' circumstances. I would phone, text, email and occasionally surf the internet, I suppose, and then only if I didn't have my iPad!

Another question: if you keep your phone number, but change to a different provider, why doesn't that cause problems with the provider code part of your number?

Because all numbers can be directed to all providers, my number has been on a dozen different operators in its time.

I can add an extra 64gb of storage to my phone for £20 whereas I believe for Apple products it costs about 700 quid to increase storage.

I don't think it was anything like that...... I'll go and check.......

If 3Gb is good, why have you got 64 Gb out of interest?

Edit.... with the O2 bundles, 64Gb iPhone SE is another £100 upfront, over the 16Gb, plus an extra £4 a month. (Upfront price of the phone increases from around £250 to £350).
The Coop phone doesn't seem to do a 64Gb, only a 16Gb, and I haven't looked at any others.

I've got this new piece of kit, it never freezes up, never needs updates, never leads to me hanging on to 'help' centres in India for hours, never requires a fix or a back-up. If anyone is interest PM me with the reference; #pencil n paper
