I am the same Talullah. I don't have a social media presence either. I have had a twitter account since donkey's years ago, but never tweeted. It's just an account so I can read the tweets of others. If I could have a facebook page under a nom de plume then I would probably do the same.

Hi I found this board because it showed up in my statistical reports about my blog as a source of traffic- both on StatCounter and Blogger.

Just got in....... this is all wonderful! How exciting! I just LOVE it when stuff like this happens! It pieces of a puzzle coming together and forming a picture you didn't know was there! :T

Are you in Australia, Anne? (Just wondering what the Au stood for!)
Or Austria, or even gold! :)

I was on another forum yesterday, and saw a post from someone random whose name indicated that they might be a possible distant relation. It wasn't a genealogy site or anything! Just an info site! I pm-ed them, but they haven't got back to me yet. I've probably scared them off ! :rotfl:

Ah ... that magical moment when you realise that you are probably related to .... F.......... P.............
    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good job you don't suffer from the same affliction as Dr. Spooner! :rotfl:

Ooh, Pastures! I just googled that surname, and it's of Huguenot origin!
I'm sure you know that too, but that ties in with other relatives of yours, doesn't it? :)

I am on facebook and twitter. As far as I know there is no link between 'silvercar' and RL me.

  • Yes : Au stands for Australia :)

We have travelled to Austria and I bought a marvellous t-shirt with the slogan "no kangaroos in Austria" emblazoned on a road sign.

Later in our travels we were met a couple from Japan in Paris. They asked where we were from. They enthusiastically talked about the skiing and the "Sound of Music". I pointed to my t-shirt and they were most embarrassed. They were yet to visit the antipodes.

Yes, I can see that mixing up Austria and Australia could be a tad confusing!

I wonder what that twelve-year-old girl would have thought if she had known that complete strangers half a world apart would be discussing her poem via an invention stranger than the telephone 80+ Years later!

    It's mind-boggling! Quite mind-boggling!

    To the other Nice Peeps.......

Would this be a good time to mention a certain person in t'other place? :D

Oh it's another chat forum! :D
A very long-standing member there has been living in Oz for a while and recently moved home, and it's been interesting hearing about the trials and tribulations of having a swimming pool and other down-undery stuff! :rotfl:

Were you born there, or did you emigrate with parents?

I still can't quite get over all this happening due to Pastures just buying a random exercise book somewhere!:j

But then I get excited over blue-footed boobies, so don't mind me! :D

All I know about Ballarat is that it features obliquely in a Sherlock Holmes story - The Boscombe Valley Mystery. The main protagonist there, apart from Holmes of course, is Black Jack of Ballarat.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • I was born here. On my father's side all my forebears had arrived in Australia by the 1850s. Strong connections still to our English cousins though.

My grandmother would refer to England as home even though her grandfather was born here and his maternal grandparents and grandparents emigrated in the 1830s.

    No convicts ;)
