Thanks so much. We will give neighbour a bit longer to do it themselves then I feel confident that OH can do it if I hold the ladder steady! Lol.
Here's how NOT to do it!

I was thinking it would work as a quad LNB say going to different rooms in a house, except some were going to neighbours.
It's the viewing card in the box which determines the level of subscription/decryption. If this were not the case, communal dishes in blocks of flats would provide all the services to everyone regardless of payment. A multi-room subscription requires a separate decoder as well as card-not just a dish connection.
  • I kept expecting Jeremy Beadle to come hurtling over the roof with the satellite dish in his hands. Why would you have someone videoing you removing wiring???

unscrew the "f" type plug(s) from the unit , cut any cable ties etc and separate

there is NO voltage on or near the plug(s) that screw into the LLB unit

at this age they may be corroded , so a pair of pliers/grips may be needed

There is up to 18v DC from the receiver to the lnb.
Although its not going to electrocute you if you short the wires you could possibly damage the neighbours receiver.

Or, more accurately, pulling it down by force :D
  • Hello again, I've been to the house again today and nothing else appears to have been done to remove the wires. Today was the day I asked that they be removed by giving them them 12 days to do it.

We are due to exchange any day now and hopefully complete on the 19th! Maybe/perhaps/hopefully! I need to be able to say to our solicitor that we have complied with our buyers solicitors request at the exchange date.

Neighbour was out so I wrote a note and left it in the letterbox saying I had been and that today was the day I had asked for removal of wires by. I sain we would now give her over the weekend until Monday and then hubby and I would have to do it ourselves. I said I was sorry for the rush but it is now crucial to our sale.

I looked at the bit where the wires go into the dish, it's at shoulder height so easy to see. The cables go into the bit that protrudes from the front of the dish. The cables are covered by a plastic casing so I couldn't see whether the ends were as the picture posted on here.

If we do have to do the job ourselves what do you people advise. If we can unscrew the connectors or failing that cut the cable close to the connectors with insulated wire snips then tape each of next doors cables up individually, they have 3 cables stapled to our wall. Roll all three wires into a roll and leave them at her side of the house. Does this sound like a good plan?

The box in next doors house will still be live I presume if she is out and hasn't contacted me before then. I don't want to cause any damage to her satellite box! Our connection is still into the house and the dish but is not live.

This is the result of trying to be friendly with your neighbours, it usually comes back to bite you in the future.

Sorry that this is turning into war and peace but I do appreciate different people's input.

    Thanks

You won't harm her sky box by disconnecting the wires from the dish.
Your plan sounds good and you've been more generous than most.

I wouldn't cut their cables as that is causing damage which the neighbour could use against you.
  • Hi,
The cables go into the bit that protrudes from the front of the dish. The cables are covered by a plastic casing so I couldn't see whether the ends were as the picture posted on here.

the connector shown in post 5 will be screwed on to each of these,

they will each be covered by a rubber boot,

    easy enough to pull off.
  • Thanks for the replies, I was only intending cutting them very close to our dish if we couldn't unscrew the connectors to pull the cables out. After 6 plus years they are likely to be corroded.

I've just watched a you tube video on how to put the connectors onto these cables but I haven't found one showing how to disconnect them.
