How to remove wiring from a sky dish

An informal arrangement was granted about 5 years ago with a neighbour to put her satellite wiring into our dish. She couldn't get a reception from her house at that time.m We are in the process of selling our house and I told our solicitor about this arrangement. She relayed it to our buyers solicitor and the reply was that they want this wiring removed before completion. Neighbour wasn't very happy when I said she would need to remove it and we're not sure if she will be able to get a reception from a new dish attached to her property or not.

I don't think that the original wiring was actually carried out by a Sky engineer in the first place. She has made a start on getting things in motion. I gave her a 10 day period when I wanted the job completed by which is tomorrow. If the work isn't done by tomorrow or at the latest this weekend it will stall our sale so ....,if my husband wanted to remove the wiring himself, what would he need to do? Does the wiring clip in, is it screwed in? How easy is it to remove 3 wires, yes the neighbour has 3 wires stapled across our house wall into our dish. We have one wire but no sky connection at the moment. The wiring will be live as next door uses hers all the time.

Any one have any advice if it came to us having to remove the wiring?what possible danger is there to my hubby doing this? Is the wiring dangerous to the touch?

Sorry for the long story but thought that the facts might as well be given.
Thanks

unscrew the "f" type plug(s) from the unit , cut any cable ties etc and separate

there is NO voltage on or near the plug(s) that screw into the LLB unit

at this age they may be corroded , so a pair of pliers/grips may be needed

The part of the dish that the cables connect to is the LNB, and although I've never actually done it myself every image that I've looked at suggests that it's a simple push on fit. Pretty simple for you to confirm this as long as you have easy and safe access to the dish. So disconnecting the cables should be simple. I don't believe there would be any electrical danger from doing this.

Edit: Actually, papa golf is right now that I've looked at a larger image, it is a screw fit, still very simple though.
  • Oh thanks for such quick replies. The dish isn't high up so is easily accessed.

No safety gloves needed or likelihood of electrocution then?

I truly hope it doesn't come to this but I can't let it stop our house sale completing.

    Thanks very much

you will see something similar to this

(or not , if you are holding the ladder)

however they will probably be covered in tape to protect them from corrosion (self amalgamating tape) , which is like double sided black sticky tape and often has to be cut (sliced down length) with a blade to remove it

  • Thanks, we wil have a look next time we're at the house?

I just hope it doesn't come to this as I don't want agro with the neighbour. I feel that she is getting it done but have the feeling that she doesn't want to pay Sky for doing it so may be waiting for a sky dish to fall off the back of a waggon, or similar!

    Thanks
  • Hi,

I don't think she can complain if she has been getting free Sky for 5 years.
  • Ah, I don't think she has been getting it free. I assume she has her own subscription but just needed a clear signal via the position of our dish. We had tenants in this property and now we don't, it's empty and our sky package now cancelled yet she's still getting a picture. I might be a bit naive but that's my understanding of the situation.

Connecting to someone else's dish doesn't provide Sky free. The neighbour's decoder will still have needed a valid viewing card in order to provide a Sky subscription.

It really is a simple matter to disconnect the cables and there is no danger of electrocution at all.
  • Thanks so much. We will give neighbour a bit longer to do it themselves then I feel confident that OH can do it if I hold the ladder steady! Lol.

    thanks.

I was thinking it would work as a quad LNB say going to different rooms in a house, except some were going to neighbours.
