Another suspicious activity if you ask me - sorry if you don't like what I posted early= I post as I find - if I was out of work dealing in Bitcoins is not what I would be doing.
As others have told you bitcoins are not mainstream but could be used on the darkweb etc for no good - I'm NOT saying you are up to no good but with banks regulatory requirements these days they will not take any chances.0 -
Hi All,
Thank you for the helpful posts and not so many thanks to the ones that branded me 'suspicious and on the guilty road'
Today I received a letter back from barclays apologizing for applying the CIFAS marker and that it has been removed with immediate effect.
All it took was a basic complaint filed online, no need for further action which i thought it was going to be!!!
Thanks,0 -

Thanks,
I hope they included some hefty compensation within that letter if they have just removed it so willingly. Placing a CIFAS marker is a serious decision and most banks don't just do a u-turn from an online complaint so I would imagine there has been something that happened behind the scenes so to speak and they are trying to cover their backs without paying heavily for it.
I wouldn't take their word for it, still do a SAR to CIFAS to make sure it is removed.
Also put in a further complaint for compensation, especially given that Santander closed your account down due to their error.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks Candy,
How would I ask for compensation. I assure you, spending 3 hours in Santander withdrawing funds and being made to feel like a criminal was not a nice thing!
I also, feel it was removed far too easily....0 -

Absolutely agree. Don't let it rest without compensation. I suggest you're looking at possibly a few hundred? Others may be better informed. Also, if you have the time, complain to the ICO and your MP about the way CIFAS works (guilty 'till proven innocent, accepts data based on hearsay and rumour etc, etc.).0 -
Have they also written to Santander to rectify the damage they've done to your reputation there?0
-
PMDUK, they have not stated so. Should I request this in my next response asking for both compensation and to write to santander?
Thanks,0 -
Frankly, anybody who's seen your credit report since the CIFAS marker was added needs to be told it was a waste of pixels.0

Thanks,
Definitely due compensation. I have found Barclays very fair with their compensation payments.0 -

You ask for compensation by writing a letter. Ensure the word Complaint is in the first line of your letter. State the facts without any of the emotion (eg. being made to feel like a criminal). Set it out so they can see a timeline:
xx-Jan-16 I discovered through a phone call to Santander that Barclays had placed a CIFAS marker
xx-Jan-16 etc
Then state that you would like to be compensated for your inconvenience, and assured all negative markers on your account have been removed.
Send the letter, by post, here:
