Remember this is the sort of story the weekend financial journalists love to use to batter banks with.
  • Wow, so I emailed CIFAS via their webform and received this response back today. Seems they want people to pay £10 to SAR them?! even though the answered me directly.

Thank you for your email regarding potential Cifas data in your name.

I can advise that if a Cifas Member has confirmed the removal of data in your name, this action will be immediate. Any Cifas Member that you may make an application to will no longer be able to view this information.

To confirm whether Cifas data has been removed, I would recommend completing and returning the attached Subject Access Request Form, along with payment and appropriate proofs of identity and address.

Please note that we do require one original document (not photocopied or printed from the internet) addressed to yourself at your current address dated within the last 3 months. Please see list B of the attached leaflet. It is for this reason that we cannot accept applications via email. The £10 fee for a SAR is a statutory fee, ensure it and any other fees incurred are covered by compensation that may be paid by Barclays.

I do understand that, but why are CIFAS advising me to pay £10 for a SAR when they have confirmed already its been removed?

    Thanks,

They've not said that, their second para says that if Barclays has asked them to do it they will have done it immediately. Their third para suggest the way to check this is via a SAR at a cost of £10. Quite understandable - they'd be breaking the law in confirming this with anybody other than the individual concerned, although I can understand your frustration.
  • Hi
Did you send the reply and got any response.

Have you been able to get the marker removed.

    Thanks

You're unlikely to get a response, the OP hasn't logged on to the site since March 2016.
  • I would focus on writing to as many newspapers, relevant radio/TV shows as possible and generally making as much fuss as you can. Make it easier for them to put the problem right than deal with negative publicity.
