Thanks for the useful information guys.. How do I now appeal my CIFAS marker due to these Bitcoin transactions...
I was out of work due to a Knee operation from beginning of November to early January.. so no regular payments going in other than the funds from my partners account (our savings) to fund these bitcoin transactions..
Now I am classed as a international fraudster by Barclays... Any help appealing this CIFAS marker? any contact details etc0 -

Out of work, no income, using someone else' money - what exactly are you intending to do with these bitcoins?
I suggest your profile as it appears on your posting is not consistent with your circumstances.0 -
I can see how it looks to the bank, but I am still completely innocent. As I was off, a lot of spare time and bored.. decided to invest in some bitcoins.
I also, as stated in the first post, decided to sell a few items online in my spare time.
I do apologize if I 'supply more information' as I am still confused and trying to understand the circumstances and wanted some help from this forum. Not to be told what I am posting is 'inconsistent' and being looked down on for doing something completely legal.0 -

And using someone else's money? actually it was my money which was in my partners saving account for the higher interest...0 -
Using a personal account to conduct business is grounds for having your account closed, so if Barclays even just has the reasonable grounds for suspicion, that may be what has happened here.
I don't know of any specialist direct number to the exact department. Just about any part of Barclays can be reached from their general number 03457345345 so perhaps try starting there - be warned though that the Barclays telephony team is notoriously inefficient, so make yourself a big cup of tea (or something stronger) and brace yourself for a long session.
You have a couple of options if you go to your local branch. Don't expect to have the problem resolved at the counter as very few staff will have access to that level of account management, and fewer still (if any) will have the ability to lift the marker. What you can do is lodge a formal complaint - they *won't* be able to resolve it at the first point of contact, but Barclay's complaints procedure includes an obligation for the manager to at least make contact and clarify the situation by the end of the next working day. There's also the possibility of monetary reimbursement if the complaint is judged in your favour. You also have the small benefit of being able to use the service phone, so you can be put on hold and passed between departments on Barclay's phone bill, not your own.
Good luck, you may need it.: )0 -
So we've finally got to the truth then, it was Bitcoins and not the selling of stuff that caused the CIFAS marker. Although I'm curious how you found out that the buyer had disputed his payment - I didn't think you could dispute a BACS or faster payment which you authorised, even if you thought you'd been scammed.
What were you selling?
How to get the CIFAS marker removed? Go and see a solicitor. No I'm not joking, you'll get nowhere going into the bank/talking to the staff at the branch. You can write letters until you are blue in the face and you'll be left with months of having to wait on their reply only to tell you that they've reviewed their decision and are sticking with it/refer you to Ombudsman to waste more of your time. In the meantime you are going to be left in no mans land. All your other bank accounts/ credit card providers will write to you and close your accounts too.
You need to seek legal advice and go armed with copies of where the funds came from to pay for the Bitcoins, why you purchased them and what you were going to use them for, the transactions where you have put money into your partner's account - where these funds originated from etc and let your solicitor liaise with them. Legal action is the fastest way of getting them to take notice. CIFAS markers last for 6 years so you want to get this sorted sooner rather than wait until all your creditors start closing your accounts down.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Thank you candy and flobber.
I sold a ipad on Gumtree. My suspicion of this being the reason it was closed is due to selling the ipad and it being disputed was due to the person at santander suggesting this.
Thank you for the information. Looks like I am going down the legal route.

Have you sent a subject access request to CIFAS? This would provide the reason Barclays have loaded on to the database against the entry.0 -
Hi Ed,
I sent it now waiting for a response. Will update when I know.
Thanks,0 -
But the plumber doesn't then blacklist you on a database which has the effect that you can't get plumbing services from anyone else. I'm fairly sure if that happened you'd be a bit put out, especially if you had pipe burst.
Out in the real world of business to business stuff that is exactly what does happen. Word gets round industry players real quick.
My employer has been on such a black list such that they could not get some component and were forced to go to various devious way to get a supplier think they were not dealing with us. The reason was our payment policies - well, there's a surprise: big companies don't like paying!
On the other hand we and others have blacklisted customers such that they were phoning us up desperate to get someone to bid on their tender. No one anywhere would - 'cos everyone in the industry did not want to do business with them.0
