I'd be smashing the Xbox up, if the step son opened his mouth, the Xbox would be getting rammed down his throat.0

How old is your stepson ?
Who linked the card to the X-box....you and your wife.....or your step-son without permission ?
How come no-one noticed the money going out of the account? Over what period of time was the £4000 racked up ?
OP, you haven't yet answered these questions, which to me seem perfectly reasonable.
Have you, or your wife actually asked your stepson if he has been downloading stuff on his Xbox? If not, why not?
You need to establish whether he is responsible for the debits to your wife's account. If he categorically denies it, and you believe him, then you can look at other possible explanations.
Good luck0 -
Not only has the OP not bothered answering my questions - which might have gained him some useful advice to try and get back at least some of the money - but he's also complained about my post apparently <shrug>I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Shame about the rude comments i was expecting something more constructive.
The problem is that there is nothing "constructive" to offer you on the subject of enabling what you want: which is to have the cost to you 'written off' either totally or substantially.
Various people with far more knowledge than me about xbox's (I know nowt) have asked some clarification questions to try an elucidate how and why the £4K came to be spent.
As regards the bank/card issuer: They will say the payments were authorised, and that the card details were willingly entered up.
It may possibly be that the card details were entered up without your wife's knowledge.
I would warn you though that were this the case and you approach the bank for a refund on this basis of card theft within the family the bank/card issuer will NOT consider it unless the person who entered up the details is referred to the police for prosecution.0 -
Its a troll thread. The OP has already said that MSE use to be a site where you could get help, "use to be" how would the OP know- only just joined.0

If the OP bought it direct form the console then yes but you can get it significantly cheaper from cdkeys for example.
Don't buy the expensive subscription via the xbox or pay about the same price from GAME or Tesco.0 -
There certainly have been similar cases with very young children where people have got the retailer to pay the money back. Apple was a case I read about recently.
I'd be going to Microsoft or Xbox or whoever runs this, perhaps via their twitter account, to see what could be done. Also find a phone number and call them. Try looking on forums for xbox outside MSE, not here.
In any case, the xbox needs switching off and removing from childs access until this is sorted. Then sell it.
Whoever instituted the link from xbox to bank account and what were they thinking?0 -

There where deductions of £86 sometimes 6 a day over a very short period.
If you cant be of help then please comment else where. Its a shame, this site was the place to go to for help now it seem to be full of self righteous trolls...

And as I said in the other thread:
If there was a CPA set up, then each individual transaction doesn't need authorising, but as per this http://www.oft.gov.uk/business-advice/treating-customers-fairly/cpa-principles/ it must be made crystal clear that a CPA is being agreed to, not just buried in T&Cs:All relevant terms of the CPA agreement should be set out clearly and in plain, intelligible language, and brought prominently to the consumer's attention. They should not just be contained in 'terms and conditions'.
I'd report it to your bank as an unauthorised transaction. They'll almost certainly try to fob you off, but be persistant and threaten to go to the financial ombusman. Good luck!0 -
ok, we have all done stupid things
my husband did when he gave his grandson his iphone to play with when he was "in charge" but in fact busy decorating
Grandson knows only to download FREE games
|However he didnt now. as no one had told/explained, that the pop up messages saying do you want to carry on playing ment real money was being spent
Grandson spent over £800 in two hours
we found out the following day
We rang apple right away and explained the situation. They were very good and talked us through the security aspects of the phone so it couldn't happen again, and refunded us all the costs there and then
It was obvious we had no history of spending on games and all the costs were accumulated in such a short time that our version of events were accepted at that time
They have said it was a one off gesture and that from now on it was down to us to secure our phones/ipads etc which we have done
Give them a ring and see if they are prepared to write off all or some of the debt. AND LOCK DOWN THE BOX AND CHANGE ALL CARD PASSWORDS
And remember, you aren't the only one this has happened to, just be wiser now on0 -
