I've actually "left" my boys to my sister in my will :rotfl: Still working on who might take the mutts on...

Busy-ish day today, flitting about here and there. Got lots done, but can't see where!

Sorry you're having a stressful time at the moment MMM. When my DH was unfairly dismissed 5 years ago, it was left to me to prepare the court case and provide food on the table, as he just did nothing. I'd come home to find he had been playing on the Play Station most of the day and gassing to his mates for hours on end on the mobile I was paying for. He got short shrift from me and asked very firmly to pull his finger out and get a job. I'd be inclined to boot your ostrich up the backside, but maybe having to walk everywhere will hasten his desire to get a better job anyway. Hope things start to improve soon for you x

Narco.. I really wish you could come run a dozen assessments here! DS2 has severe dyslexia, mild dyscalcula and severe dyspraxia.. he could read music before he could read words but he cannot play an instrument. He can whizz maths in his head but not put the answers down.. he had a dreadful time at school. Uni are assessing DD1 for dyspraxia.. but getting any of the school to assess for dyslexia is impossible.

Well I'm exhausted, what a day. Neither of us slept well as Mr N had to go to a job at 5.30am so we both worried in case the alarm didn't go off. I also worried that I'd have to get up at the same time, in case I fell back asleep and didn't wake up to go to my early meeting.

Got to meeting and without going into too much detail it wasn't what we were expecting, and basically means that the uni can no longer afford to pay us for doing one aspect of the work. The big agencies are undercutting the uni. We either have to join an agency and get a lower hourly rate or go freelance and undercut the agency. Luckily for me my assessment work is unaffected as it is a different contract. We can also continue to teach our existing students until the end of their course (up to 3 yrs) as their funding is already secured.

So that left me a bit gobsmacked for the day.
Then did an assessment at uni.
Came home to 2 enquiries for private assessments so that is good.
My 29th day of using MyFitnessPal and I have lost 7lb.
News from my niece that her son is doing well following his op, my stepsister went to visit and she said you wouldn't know he'd just had major surgery.

Apart from that sorry no flying done other than making dinner. Bed next.

Funding is a nightmare at the moment. We newly diagnose so many people at uni (and when I was in FE, and community education, probation etc) because the schools didn't have the time/money/staff/inclination. Drives me nuts.

Narco I had a massive battle to get DS2 diagnosed.. I took a sample of his work to the dyslexia institute the assessor took one look at it gasped and said this child needs major help! He was 7 and couldnt read a word annd his letter formation was horrific.. I still have the paper somewhere.. I got a lettter from her and forced the school to assess him.. they refused for DS3 but we did start an assessment for aspergers then the psychologist left and it was never completed.. the services here are awful, noone wants to work here in any role.. the vacancies are huge.

I think Dot has ADD or ADHD or something and the paeds wont even accept a referral.. I just want her school days to be happy not full of naughty chairs and telling off.. she is a lovely little thing but a total handful! I said to DD1 she should get her son assessed for dyspraxia too.. he falls over constantly, has poor speech and pencil control and other obvious bits.. if they say no hes just a pudding and clumsy thats fantastic.. but if he would benefit from a bit of support he should have it

    Evening all

Hugs, sticks, spoons, and vibes to everyone.

Just updating my list. I've spent the past 4ish hours painting my mobile phone case with nailvarnish as the pattern was wearing off it and it looked terrible and very obvious it was a cheap rubber one from p0und1and. Now I have a sparkly black one :D I think I'll count that as the rest of the weeks crafting :o I love painting things using nailvarnish, it dries so quick and is usually long lasting lol

Narco thanks for your words of wisdom re S's dyslexia and dyscalculia; he's a very bright boy and I know the way his brain is 'wired' makes him unique. J had dyslexia and did 2 engineering degrees and his sister has it too and got a Masters so he's got 2 really good role models there for a start!

Pigpen you're so right that getting schools to assess for dyslexia is impossible - they didn't help out at all with S's assessment. I've got to email the report in and then fix up to go and see his teacher and the SENCO to see what they can do to help him. If he needs to go to Bristol Dyslexia Centre my Dad suggested I contact the Education department at the Council to see if they can help out with extra lessons for him; worth a try if necessary I guess but I don't hold out a huge amount of hope.

Flying wise I want to do a tiny bit of ironing, do a coloured wash (S's school sweatshirts etc) and call Sainsburys Energy as we're hugely in credit but are switching to British Gas and want to see if the credit can go into J's bank account. We switched the other day and are saving £260 :T! For cleaning the bathroom I'll have to take out S's pirate ship and pirates who are currently battling in the bottom of the bath in a puddle of water so he won't be best pleased but needs must.

Off to bed now, not as early as I hoped for but watched Leonardo Dicaprio in The Beach whilst knitting and completely lost track of the time. Feeling much more relaxed now which is good so should sleep without taking a tablet. We're taking Whiz to Agility tomorrow and Z has said she'll video it so should be interesting !

Mumof2.. my mother paid £120 for my sister an assessment because the school refused to do it.. once she had the report the school refused her any help and refused to acknowledge she had an issue.. it is disgraceful what they get away with!

    Evening everyone

Hugs and gw/come-back soon vibes for CY and Skinty

Sorry to hear about all the sprogs assessment problems. My son was very bright and I had problems getting him assessed but did eventually. I was lucky that I found schools for him where the first school had a headmistress and the upper school a headmaster and they were married to each other with a gifted child of their own. This meant they understood the problems and were very, very helpful and supportive.

Fortunately that is all far behind me now on my journey, but I hope you all get things sorted as quickly as possible as it is such a worry and you feel a bit helpless until it's sorted.

  • Morning everyone

Mad week at the paid stuff, I have been trying to keep on top of the basics but thats it really. Sorry no idea whats going on with the thread but it looks like the baby hasnt arrived yet!

DS1 has applied for a job at a local tourist attraction and has been invited to an "open day" today. I assume this is a process of whittling down all the applicants before they do formal interviews but he has talked to a friend who worked there and thinks this is the interview.

DS really struggles to speak to strangers and doesnt really do things without me so this could all be a total disaster but he wants to get a job and I am proud of him for trying. We will see.

Loads of other stuff going on here but I will try and catch up properly later!
