I've known people though, in the past, who thought they'd got away without paying and were really annoyed when the bill finally arrived and then tried to find ways of not paying, but obviously you're not thinking of that.
I think if you stopped , re read , and digested the OPs post you should realise he would normally have no objection to paying , but because they have threatened him with further action , when it was their fault hes slightly miffed .....i would be tempted to let them go for it too !Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Nothing you can say absolves you from the fact you owe the money. Any problems you had are irrelevant, the goods are in your position so the contract was concluded.
No excuse alters this fact, you either pay or wait to see what they do, they may do nothing they may take you to court.0 -
RobRob86, I think a lot is being lost in translation.
It is difficult enough for a native English speaker to ensure they don't upset someone when writing, but it must be much more difficult for a German speaking person to get the right sentiment when writing in English.
Do you understand that "contract is concluded" means that the point has been reached where the seller is committed to deliver the goods and the buyer is committed to pay for them?
There is nothing ambiguous there.
In your position I would be ignoring any implied 'tone' in their email and accept gracefully that you need to pay. Ignore the seven days if you like - it is unenforceable.0 -
I must read it differently to youI think if you stopped , re read , and digested the OPs post you should realise he would normally have no objection to paying , but because they have threatened him with further action , when it was their fault hes slightly miffed .....i would be tempted to let them go for it too !
Do you think not liking the tone of the letter a good reason not to pay?0 -
Stop looking for loopholes that are not there.
You have the goods, they need paying. Dosent get much simpler then that.0 -
If the milkman comes to my door and says"I'm terribly sorry, I forgot to collect last month's bill, do you think it would be a problem to pay both this month?" I would say "Fine, no problem."
If the milkman comes to the door and says "I forgot to collect last month's bill. Pay it now or I will take you to court in a week." I would tell him to *** off and cancel his services, although I would probably pay in the end.
The OPs problem is simply that the company made a mistake and the company should apologise and give him an opportunity to settle gracefully before threatening court action. This is absolutely understandable. It's nothing to do with the money.0 -

I think it a damn good reason to make the company's life as difficult as I possibly can, if I can do so without going to any great trouble.0 -
Bloody hell! Just pay the money and stop being so precious!! The whole vengeful attitude is quite frankly pathetic.0

You received the goods, admittedly demanding the money within 7 days when its their fault it wasn't taken is a bit much.., but well.., you should have known the money wasn't taken. £200 isn't what I'd call loose change.
It's not the OPs fault if he has enough money that £200 is what he'd call loose change.0 -

He's annoyed because the company spoke to him rudely. But then you clearly have no problem with speaking to people rudely. I think your attitude is absurd, and that you are a ridiculous, pathetic little man. Of course, you won't be precious and get upset about this, will you.0
