Its 3 + 3 x 3 -3 =3
So 3 + 3 = 6
x 3 = 18
- 3 = 15
+3 = 18
I am a self employed bookkeeper
3 + (3x3) - 3 + 3
These days it seems you have to imagine the brackets are there.0 -
Rose's way:
3 + 3 x 3 - 3 + 3 = 18
simplify to
3 x 3 + 3 = 18
divide both sides by 3
3 + 3 = 6
This is why you need the brackets - to make things clear.0 -
Looks like the Persil 45 washing powder (sorry to go on about it:o:rotfl:) but just to make you fully aware of the facts that appear to be the case - has just gone up to £11 in T on msm, probably come off an offer, and W, although it would not have matched a T offer on Price Match may have been on offer too and now gone up, along with T, to match T's new (higher) standard price. T now showing at the highest price it has ever been at in any time in the last 12 months according to msm. W showing on there at the highest price it has been at too. But it's alright as you won't pay more than T but can rest assured in the comforting knowledge that you'll pay the same price as it is at T - which appears to be at its highest ever price for a year.:rotfl:
Price matching is a really good thing!:laugh:
(In W too, of course, people would not get any TBG 'discount' - or in effect mere matching to a competitor's total branded bill plus the extra cost of own label T items, non-grocery items and other excluded items - that if they were buying 10 different items, they would probably likely get in T, although not get the full difference to the price on the Persil elsewhere, due to losing some of it on other branded items in their shop assuming they did not shop so badly as to lose it altogether and therefore end up just as expensive as W. So, on 10 different item shops including the Persil, provided people did not shop so badly in T as to get no TBG, buying in W (using no coupons/other discounts etc. at all*) would [Strike]probably[/Strike] end up paying more than buying the items in T (simply because another competitor of T, which T compares against, would be likely to work out cheaper with the difference on the Persil bought in the shop being included).)
*We assume 'all things are equal' i.e. no store specific coupons/vouchers/discount cards etc. being used in either W or T.0 -

This is simple maths, there is one answer, not multiple, and the answer is 12.
Basically, always multiply out any multiplication before doing any addition/subtraction. This is where you went wrong. Multiplying comes before addition/subtraction in maths order of operations.
Ok, bare with me if you will. It's an equation, this is the equation:
3 + 3 x 3 - 3 + 3 = N
An equation can be rearranged and/or simplified and still give the same answer. This is an equation which is not in it's simplist form.
The last two threes cancel (-3 + 3 = 0) to leave us with
3 + 3 x 3 = N
We can rearrange the equation as follows by subtracting 3 from both sides:
3 x 3 = N - 3
We know 3 x 3 = 9 so:
9 = N - 3
Now we can solve for N by adding 3 to both sides.
9 + 3 = N
N = 12
And if you still don't believe me, maybe you'll believe google calculator.
