Stuck in a lift?

Personally I think the OP has, potentially, been treated in at least an off-hand manner.
The problem is that the OP didn't know it would be 20 minutes. There is an element of worry and fear because they're trapped in a situation they don't want to be in, for a period of time they're unsure of.
The accident book should be a minimum requirement IMO, it's important to note that there has been a problem and that has been remedied. Being trapped for, what was at the time an unknown time, is clearly unpleasant for anyone.
Legally it would be very difficult IMO to claim for anything more as there's nothing tangible or quantifiable to put in a claim for. The small claims courts process could produce any random result if a claim was put in, but certainly the company I work for (we have over 100 outlets) would offer a compensation gesture in a case such as this.
There's probably not really much to be done other than to mark it down to experience and mention it on the hotel's Tripadvisor account to warn other people. They can then decide themselves what they make of it.0 -
I don't think you can claim anything.
However, you would certainly be entitled to email the manager and complain about the fact that you got stuck and no-one had enough common courtesy to even ask if you were ok.
My OH worked in an old hotel some time ago- the lift got stuck so frequently that the staff didn't even bother to report it to the manager. There was a lot of complaints on Trip Advisor about it though!0 -
Oh don't worry I have its just I was wondering it was normal to be handled this way. In my work people have to sign the book for minor things and I assumed it was just the way all companies are.
Fair Health. As I said above I've suffer from a lot of panic attacks. They didn't ask a simple 'you alright?' anyway so I'm certain they don't care about health.
About the time, 20 minutes wasn't an equeueration. I thought it was at least 20 but after checking with partner I was gone at least a half hour. I've also stood in a queue for longer but the experience is very different.
I agree its not the end of the world guys it's just the situation seemed insane to me as it was a first. I thought they'd gave treated it differently but if this is the way it is then whatever. I'm just glad it was me and not one of the old women here that wouldnt be able to be pulled out!
You've vented. If you suffer from panic attacks, it's undstandable but
People who don't have them don't understand. Me included but I empathise0 -

This, lets hope we hear more from this poster0 -
You're all being a bit unfair here.
The OP was inconvenienced for a short time, but it was scary for her, and little was done by way of apology. The establishment should be offering her a small "consideration" to put things right - a bottle of wine from the bar, or a free lunch perhaps. Yes, these things happen, but I don't think that's unreasonable.0 -
As no accident occurred it won't be entered into the accident book, the maintenance guy should of and most probably has recorded it in the incident book. The op was given a glass of water by a member of staff, and to be honest wouldn't most people rather not be made a fuss of in this situation?...I certainly wouldn't like people faffing around me and would be very happy to be left to walk away and get on with my day.0

I agree, the OP was stuck in the lift. As it was happening, she didn't know what was happening and how long for.
As it was, the hotel responded pretty quickly and got her out within 20 mins. Did they ignore her while this was going on, did they tell her they were trying to get her out, would get her out etc? I assume so as the engineer got her something to drink, there has to have been some communication going on.
But the OP feels more 'care' should have been given afterwards. She may well be right. She was probably too shaken up at the time to ask for this, but now I'd write a letter saying that the experience was a bit more traumatic than staff realised and that procedures perhaps could be changed.
However, the OP could also try and be a bit more positive and realise she actually got out of the lift pretty quickly. She was lucky, it could have taken a lot longer (if such a thing was going to happen at all). I would come out of the situation thanking my lucky stars I was ok and not still stuck in there.
