...I don't know if I'm expecting too much but I just dont feel it's right to be so minor for them? I was in shock for my whole first day (side note, I have panic problems and was even on medication previously for it) and I don't want to sound like a diva going crazy but surely this isn't right? ...

Here's a thread about someone getting stuck in a lift for 3.5 hours who was offered £500.

Here's a story about a woman getting stuck in a lift for 3 hours and receiving £300.

I therefore reckon that 20 minutes might be worth £50. But that's just an educated guess.

Unless the hotel was negligent and had ongoing poblms with the lift, it is justs unfortunate. They might, if you ask them, offer you a small discount or upgrade on your room as a goodwill gesture.

If you have a lot of luggage I think you could also reasonably ask them to bring your bags down for you when you check out so that you don't have to use the lift if you don't feel comfortable doing so.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

I reckon OP is entitled to nowt.

The first story is a FAMILY being stuck in a lift for nearly 4 hours and the second story with the woman stuck in the lift was a diabetic who required rich tea biscuits feeding to her for 3+ hours. Both of these cases are worthy of some recompense.

OP (who unless advises otherwise is in good health) was stuck in the lift for a whopping 20 mins - I've stood in queues longer! And even 20 minutes is a guess as the OP admits she had no watch or phone - I find people tend to vastly exaggerate these things - OP was probably only in there for 10 mins!

I realise it's not a nice experience, but come on, 20 mins (or 10) is hardly the end of the world. Glass of water is about the right amount of compo for this!

Id sue, Did you put it in the accident book? ..easy money, chink chink
  • Why do people believe this should be recorded in an accident book?

On a side note, people spend longer then 20 minutes in the crap trap - Much smaller then a lift.

What would you sue them for?

Loss, damage or injury to what?

Probably "trauma and stress" with "sleepless nights" and "lifetime fear of lifts" thrown in for added effect
it literally was one of the worst experiences of my life. It was so hot and stuffy, the lights were going on and off, the lift was shaking at times and they even had to do the fire alarm at one point. As I was stuck between two floors, when they finally opened the doors they had to pull me out of a small gap. It was absolutely horrible.

the fear of lifts and they have to use the stairs all the time, might live on the tenth floor.
    Strange but true.
Accident books are too stop things happen again.Like if someone got trapped in there for ten days and died .
The Police can say well you knew it was faulty it was in the accident book.
  • First world problem. Next time use your legs.

Accident books are for recoding injuries. Was there one?

Why would the police deal with someone trapped in a lift for 10 days? It would happen, firstly the Fire Service would be called and is not a criminal offence for a lift to break down.
