  • BIt of a quiet week, although the work spends are creeping up as I'm struggling with eating harder food still and slightly fed up of soup.

Got a £3 Pinecone through and it's paid and OP'd swiftly today. Also 4p Tt'd yesterday too so still trickling the OPs through. Started a few small Onepoll a bit struggling with swagbucks- seem to get screened out of the surveys :)

Car had its MOT and had the squeaking on the front near side fixed- culprit was a broken coil. So £150 lighter but the car is passed for another year. With the windscreen replacement- £85- and the replaced tyre -£45 I'm still under my car fixing budget that I save for throughout the year :)

  • Glad the MOT wasn't too bad! We've got ours due in October and we're not sure how expensive it'll end up being! We only paid £350 for the car, so hopefully it won't cost more than that!
  • Hi MFWers
It's been a rather long week, but the weekend has more than made up for it :)

We attended a routes into teaching open event at Leicester Uni for me to understand more about teaching and how to get into teaching if I decide to make the jump from my current job. It really ignited my desire to find out more about it and start looking at how we could manage it financially if I were to do it. Looking at timelines it would mean applying for September 2019 which would mean a fair while to amass more savings as the buffer whilst in training.

Thy offer bursaries and the option I would be applying for was £9k this year but is subject to change so I would need to build a bigger buffer and then really look at reducing outgoings.

Definitely food for thought and got my ideas racing!

It's the end of the month so just done my last TT of the month for 25p which makes a total of £184.26 :T

Pretty pleased with this and even more so as the £40 from onepoll has yet to appear (it's within the timeframe they advise I'm just impatient!)

Kung pao chicken, Chinese cabbage & noodles for dinner tonight which was delicious and now stuffed! :)

Now we're both curled up on the sofas with a kitten each snoozing next to us :)

  • It appears I declared totals too soon: had the Ching of an eBay sale- £9.36 after Paypal fees so have swept that across as an OP making September a grand £193.62- it's so crazily close to £200 so I've made up the difference to keep it a nice tidy number :D

Therefore I'm declaring £200 for septembers OPs!

Well done on finding another £15 for a nice round OP!
I keep thinking about going into teaching, but I don't think we'd be able to afford it until both children are at school, and then we'd need to save quite a bit more. By then I might not have the energy needed for it!

Hi Silence, it's something I've played around with ever since graduating but have got very used to my current role and having a good cushion of money each month.

The recent changes in my job role and management etc has really made me reevaluate and look at whether I could afford to do this or not. A two year plan feels long enough to get some savings together, still have our holiday of a lifetime to Oz, and get the relevant experience/evening studies to have a subject refresher too. I think I need to start putting it down on paper and having a good old chat with the gf. She thinks I would make a great teacher (she said yesterday to my suprise!) and seems very supportive just concerned over how we can make it work and make me more fulfilled in my role.
    :D

On a separate note, car insurance is due at the end of the month- renewal quote of £520 received from my current insurer but getting a new quote from then was £314!!! Craziness, and there's quidco cashback of £25 which would come through later! They are the cheapest looking at comparison sites (through quidco for the £2.30 cashback!) and getting direct quotes from people not on comparison sites.

Next on the list is house insurance- contents & buildings- which I'm doing this afternoon, then we need to find out about boiler service. L

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch at gf's mum which we helped cook- we had a thick dhal, khudi and akhu shak (which is small veg like potatoes, chillis, baby aubergine stuffed with a masala and cooked down! My favourite!).

We had to nip to Tescos to get mum some chapati flour and were there at a good time as picked up some smoked salmon for £1.88 from £4 which we'll eat for supper with cream cheese on bagels. We also got some turkey breast mince reduced to £2.28 for the freezer and a 2/3 person rack of lamb for £5.40 (down from £10.80b) which is in the freezer ready for the festive period for a decadent dinner :D

I've mowed the lawn and put the strimmer round followed by de-weeding then barked area at the back of our drive and doing a bit for the neighbours too but gave up when it started raining. Now time to chill ready for work tomorrow!
