Bank Charges, what should my immediate steps be?

Hi,
I've managed to incur £70 odd pounds worth of unarranged overdraft charges on my Natwest account which I had unfortunately forgotten about (yes my fault I know) I now do not have enough to pay these charges and I will not for at least two weeks when I am next paid, is there anyway I can prevent or reduce the fees which will build up daily until the fee of £70 is paid? I regularly go into the red on my account so I doubt Natwest will consider waiving them.
Thanks in advance.

1st thing to do is find out why you've incurred these charges and address the cause of them. If you don't it's likely to happen again.
2nd thing to do is to ring them and ask to waive them if it's a first time offence. This is best done calming, by appealing to their better nature rather than shouting, ranting and raving.

Hi Dobbiebill,
Thanks for replying I've just got off the phone with Natwest and although I have gone overdrawn quite a bit before I've never had a charge waived so the operator very kindly waived the entire £78 although apologised that I would still be charged £12 for being overdrawn yesterday because of the charges and those would not be waived because it can only be done once, but I'm very happy to just pay the £12! and I've got an appointment on Wednesday to setup overdraft control0 -
I'm looking into setting up a Jam Jar account with the local credit union which I think will help0

so glad you've got a waiver, make sure you set up the control so that you can prevent this happening again.

Also MS money, add all you in's and out's, so you actually know how much money you have or haven't got.
Never knew our finances years ago, until I used it and have never paid a fee for any of my bank accounts since.
