I'm disabled and can't afford to pay for any decorating and am not able to carry out any decorating is there any way i could get help with this? As I've only found grants for things like disability adaptations and the two local sort of care and repair services don't do decorating.
Any help or advice would be great! Thanks, Katharine0 -
I applied for & was accepted for a full Warm Front grant but basically can't get anything done because I live in a maisonette!
I want to have cavity wall insulation but Warm Front keep saying no because upstairs would have to be done too, I keep telling them that upstairs want theirs done & the owner of the upstairs flat has also contacted them but we aren't getting anywhere!
I get a full grant because I am on benefits but from what I've been reading even if the owners of upstairs aren't entitled to a full grant they would be eligible to have it installed at a subsidised cost (about £200). We’ve tried asking for a quote if one of us has got to pay towards it but still aren’t getting anywhere!!
I can’t find any terms & conditions that state you are not eligible for cavity wall insulation on the grant if you live in a flat/maisonette but the way things stand at the moment, we either both have to go without or I have to pay for something I can have for free!!

The It Pays To Watch team, Martin's Channel Five programme, are looking for people to talk about doing up their home with a grant. If you've had a grant for heating, insulation, repairs, and fancy being on TV find out more in this thread.

My experience Wendy is that the suppliers charge more because it is grantable.
When I queried with one contractor his charges, he said, "it's free to you, so what are you worried about".
Then he went on to explain/complain that being accredited to EnergysavingsTrust cost money.0 -

My Council handyman service does not do gardening, does not do decorating, took several weeks to fix a broken tap. He will put up shelves or change lightbulbs. So I think it depends where you live.Be nice to people who are on their way downYou never know when they are going to pass you on their way back up againYou cannot light your own candle by blowing out someone else's0 -
hi i am registered disabled and have trouble parking my car outside my home due to volume of cars in my road, i have asked the council about dropping my Kerb so i can park in my driveway, they have told me it will cost approx £1.000 as i am on benefits this is way beyond what i can afford can anyone tell me if there is an Organisation or grant available to help me with these costs please i would be grateful for any advice given thankyou
You will be entitled to VAT Exemption and also check with the councils social services as you may be entitled to up to £25,000 towards other disabled building work My lowering of the kerb dropped from £1,000.00 to £630.00 when I (in Writing) explained that I was claiming for disabled access entitlement and They sent a form to sign to go VAT Free (Exempt)0 -
good to know, an update on disabled facilities grants, there will soon be a change in law to allow the local council to put a charge on owner homes, so that should they sell they will have to pay back a percentage. worth checking this and the time period you need to stay at address, this will not apply to building work in progress today, but will apply soon.totally debt free:j and mortgage free too 20100

Do you know where I can get more info on this? If I were renting I would get about £500 per month housing benefit. Because I own my home I save the public purse £500pm, so now they want to charge on top of this! I wonder how many people will not apply for facilities they need because of the charge?Be nice to people who are on their way downYou never know when they are going to pass you on their way back up againYou cannot light your own candle by blowing out someone else's0
