I have nothing against helping out those less fortunate, but it would be nice if could also qualify for some help as well.
A property I own has an old boiler, probably 10 years old. Replacing would cost approx £3k, all of which is out of my own pocket. It would be great if my tax could also go towards supporting myself, not just everyone else.
Define normal living costs. The less fortunate often don't have enough for that.
I had no safe heating for four years, no lighting in the kitchen or bathroom for two years, no extract ventilation for a decade, a leaking/ flooding immersion heater with widespread black mould for eighteen months, the last few months of that the water was mostly off at the stopcock.
Destroyed the carpet and screed in a huge area leaving lumpy dusty split bare concrete. Imagine the indoor air quality and the state of my chest with that lot. Open a window? My street is a diesel bus terminus.
And others have it worse than me.
Got a few months of PIP 'backpay' a while back so a mahoosive energy debt got paid off, two rooms have heating, my kitchen/ living area has lighting, the immersion heater got replaced. LOVING having sparkly spotlights, I play with all the switches like a five year old. :rotfl: .
I can now apply to the council for an equity release loan on a property that is still legally uninhabitable. Have to have everything the council do agree done within three months, regardless how sick/ old/ young/ overcrowded you are. Cannot live here with more than one thing being done anyway (central hallway is the eye of the disrepair storm).
And others have it worse than me. I have enough money left to get another phase of repairs done.
I am the only one of my relatives who has relied on benefits BTW, they were all taxpayers tho half are claiming your taxes as pensions now. I have worked and volunteered for many years in the past and will again. Every bit of taxpayer's money I can spend making this place a little safer is a baby step towards that.
Others have it worse than me for much longer than me.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Have received a leaflet from Pro Energy Ltd Romford for a new boiler Replacement & insulation under the ECO3 gov scheme . Have been eligible for it although not sure if the company is legit. Seems too good to be true. Any reviews or suggestions on how to find out about the company or anybody who has used the company before?0

Shell Energy has for some reason decided that I no lohger qualify for the Warm Home Discount, despite me qualifying automatically while they were First Utility. It seems that being on a basic state pension with a protected payment giving me a total annual income of £10,128.56 no longer qualifies for the scheme with Shell Energy.Be warned, steer clear of Shell Energy.0
