Does anyone know what company is doing the free cavity wall insulations for over 60 (regardless of income). I know British Gas are offering it to their customers, but does anyone know who actually does the work ?
Thanks0 -
For a very limited time, everyone who lives in Newcastle Under Lyme can get completely free Cavity Wall and Loft insulation.
North Staffordshire Warm Zone have secured funding to provide householders in Newcastle Under Lyme with Cavity Wall and Loft insulation, regardless of if you recieve a means tested benifit or age.
This offer is open to everyone who lives in the borough.
You can find out more information and apply on North Staffordshire Warm Zones website (I'm new so can't post an actual link but its www .nswz.co.uk) or by calling Warm Zone on 01782 479099. They don't have many phone lines so the website is the best bet to get in touch. There's an application pack on there and more information.
This is first come, first served. I'm sure there is a fair usage policy and its only available if you live in Newcastle Under Lyme or Stoke.0 -
Hi Aswain,
I'm confused - there's loads of companies in the other threads offering free solar pv in return for the company taking the feed in tariff. The only company I can find that offer the £500 is Homesun who are offering exactly the same deal as Isis, A Shade Greener, British Gas and a few others too but they're charging you £500 for the pleasure of using their system and for your generosity providing them with lots of cash over the next 25 years via the feed in tariff.
Each of the companies above let you have the electricity free and you don't have to pay anything. The only real difference is that Homesun let you buy the system at a later date of you want to but as the price is going to drop significantly over the next 12 months that is a rubbish deal too.
Sorry if I've missed the point but I can't get my head round what you think you've found - I'm intrigued if it's something different from the above.:(
I've been doing a lot of research into this recently - these articles may be of interest - (I wanted to post a link to a Guardian article but the site won't let me as a new user. if anyone can advise me how to get a link on the site, I'll post it)0 -
Trying to work out the cost of a new heating system for a house which has storage heaters.
Local Council provides grants of 50% of value of new heating system up to £1000 - not means tested.
NPower give £800 grant if you swap from electric to gas.
Are there any other applicable grants? Can I apply for both? Will I def get them or are their risks to either of them? I dont want to factor in grants which I may not get. How long does it take to receive the grants? Are they paid upfront or after you have paid for the heating system?
Thank you!:A0 -
I'd ike to know about this NPower grant too as I dont even have gas to the house, let alone any c/heating.... So if anybody has any ideas, I'd really appreicate it0

Hi
Does anyone know that if you receive this grant/offer are you then tied in to staying with British Gas?
We recently moved into our new home and at present haven't got round to switching to the cheapest provider, so we are duel fuel with BG for now.
Wondered if I get this survey and they pay for the insulation will it mean I can't switch providers.
any help is appreciated!!

No you're not tied into british Gas all of the utilities offer the free insulation, they've got really high co2 saving targets to hit and they are hit with a massive fine if they don't achieve it so it's in their interest to get as much insulation in as possible.Target of wind & watertight by Sept 20110

Thanks Gizmosmum,
Sounds like I should still switch to the cheapest provider as a priority, if they all provide insulation grants? Why the headline about BG's offer I wonder, is it because the only criteria to qualify is being on dual fuel and not due to age or income/benefits?0 -
If you go round any of the big DIY sheds ( B&Q Wickes etc.) you will see insulation at "bargain" prices with stickers saying private customers only/limited to xx per customer etc. If you look at the stickers carefully there will be "subsidised by British Gas" etc. in the small print.
I'm thinking of making a walk way down the centre of my loft using interlocking chipboard with a thick chunk of black nucleated polystyrene stuck to the underside subsidised by British Gas. As I understand it the expanded polystyrene has been made with graphite dust mixed in; this gives smaller more uniform bubbles and so improves the insulation performance of the foam. |0
