Good Morning All
Legomum - Thanks for starting us off today, hope you managed to get some rest and that you feel better soon
Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.
Life feeling a little overwhelming at minute due to family issues so trying hard to be kind to myself (eldest brother has lung cancer and understandably is very ill and trying to deal with this without talking to us or bothering us, youngest brother is so blunt, critical and says he's not particularly bothered, mum is stressed by all this and worrying over eldest (as I can fully appreciate) but it's also affecting her health and well-being, she herself is in hospital today to have a lump removed and investigated - = how I feel). Today I will

Unfortunately yesterday and today have turned out to be spendy. Yesterday I bought dog food and finally got round to taking the dry cleaning into town - it had been sat there since last summer
Today I bought lunch at work (salad, then a big fat cake) and we're going for a carvery with friends tonight. Luckily I have a 2 for £10 voucher
Loads to do at work
2 hours overtime for the wedding pot

Afternoon all
Been a busy and eventful morning for me!
Noticed that the TV Licence came out this morning, I thought it wasn't due until March so hadn't budgeted for it
Took daughter to childminders
Radio (will elaborate)
Fitted a new door on our wardrobe (that's now our room completed!)
Called Halifax r.e. first mortgage payment
Cleaned up around the house
This morning I called into the radio (Clyde 1) and was actually picked to do a contest called the '5k minute' I only got 3 answers right thoughHowever for my (abysmal) efforts I will be getting a cheque through soon for £30.00 which I'll be putting straight to my CC
Must post away copy of passport etc for CC balance transfer card when I go to pick DD up in half an hour.0 -
Hello Freezy Frugalistas,
Nice bright start to the day here, but it has become very windy again & is trying hard to sleet. Needless to say, no extra heating going on here until later! Have got dress on, with big jumper & huge cardigan. If I went & sat outside on the kerb, I think the Council would come & collect me, mistaking me for a sofa!
Anyway, here are today's bits of money saving activity:
*Just about managed a cheap overnight wash. It finished off on daytime tariff. Bah!! Serves me right for setting timer in the dark without my specs on!
*All laundry dried outside on the line this morning, so that's 2 night's of heated airer energy saved this week.
*Checked online banking for this mythical goodwill payment. Still waiting.
*Received reply from Sainsbury's about being over-charged on Sunday. It was a complete accident on their part. I bought a copy of the Sainsbury's mag, which had a little free box of sweets on the front. Both were sealed inside a plastic bag. When I updated grocery budget yesterday, I noticed we'd been charged for the magazine & also charged £1.30 for the sweets, as a separate item. I emailed them. I know it's only a tiny sum, but surely a free gift is a free gift. Anyway, they were really apologetic & said that the scanner had obviously picked up the barcode on the sweets too, when the mag was being scanned. I thought that was how it probably happened. They are sending me a £5 voucher to refund the £1.30 & a little extra for letting them know, as it's obviously a problem which could happen again. I was happy with that, as I only wanted my £1.30 back.
*Submitted energy meter readings. Only did them last week, but apparently bills are in the offing & they requested another one. Never mind.....takes only a few mins to upload & I would rather my bill is calculated on exact figures instead of some meaningless estimate pulled out of a hat by 2 blokes at the photocopier.
*Did a very few surveys. About £7 away from cash-in on YouGov & trying to build up Onepoll again, as they add up quite quickly.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch. Not yet done as we are doing a diet plan which has some much lower calorie days & I'm not sure if mr f intends Wednesday to be one of them!
*Wrapped 5 ebay sales ready for posting tomorrow when I will hopefully have the car. Used all recycled wrappings from my stash. I only ever buy brown tape for this.
*Mended de-humidifyer again, with string.
*Made cream of celeriac soup......so called, even though the only dairy product contained therein is skimmed milk. Hadn't made it before. Used recipe from the old 'Covent Garden Soup Company' book, the original green & white one which often rocks up in charity shops thee days. Tried it for lunch. It's lovely! Like thick white creamy velvet.......& 85 calories only, as I divided it up into 5 portions & have frozen the rest for some warming free lunches later on.
*Made bread dough for wholemeal rolls & pizza base. Pizza topping will be based on some of yesterday's rubber chicken-fest, coated in fajhita spice, plus veggies, jalapenos, maybe sweetcorn, & a big salad. Might make celeriac slaw to use the rest of the nobbly beast.
*Tonight will be free leisure - knitting & hopefully watching some more vikings.....was too sleepy last night. Was incubating a cold, but it's a very titchy one, & so far, I barely know I've got it.
OK, time to shake a leg.
Love to all,
f x
Ziggy - That's a lot of family stuff on your plate at the moment. I'm getting the impression that your younger brother isn't being very helpful. Shame he can't muck in & be gracious about it, as your other brother is terminally ill, & now really isn't the time to be throwing out unhelpful stuff. Would he expect you all to run about supporting him if he was desperately poorly, I wonder? Anyway, be kind to yourself & remember that you can only ever do your best xx2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
