Do you/Would you vet potential dates

I would not agree to go on a date with anyone I hadn't met several times previously and who lived in my area. New people I meet don't become date material unless my friends also know the person.
I did look up someone on the internet about a year ago, not because I was considering dating him, but because he turned up on my doorstep out of the blue, showing me his mobile phone which had a picture of my face on it. Turns out he had been searching for me for over three years, checking houses on google earth and ringing Tesco because he knew I shop there. I was horrified that he had gone to such lengths and told him that I never wanted to see him again. That was the last I saw of him, but it could have gone horribly wrong.
I expect to remain single forever, which suits me fine.
IlonaI love skip diving.
