HSBC randomly defaulted savings account !!!

You still have a relationship with HSC so they can and should look into this for you if requested. Visiting a branch would be better, but note some branches are more helpful than others.
If an account was dormant and overdrawn a small amount HSBC could just close it to save on costs (sending statements, monitoring, etc), furthermore it helps with profits as some debts can be written off from operating profits.
If its an error on Equifax's side then they should fix it, whether they insist in a notice of correction and proof from you or the bank is a different matter.0 -
Ok thanks! When I spoke to HSBC that's what they said had happened. They'd paid it and closed the account in 2013
I'll see what Equifax have to say0 -
I think we need to remember its a "savings account" they should not be reported to the CRAs unless the OP has made a mistake in the account type.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

Thanks - definitely no mistake. I called HSBC with the last digits of the account number and they confirmed instant access savings x0

I wonder if this was under 'defaulted and delinquent' accounts? If so then you often find late payments in that section, doesn't mean they are defaulted though.0

Update on this - they've added this notice of correction to my account - without contacting me to tell me.....
NOTICE OF DISPUTE - THE INDIVIDUAL CONCERNED HAS DISPUTED THE ACCURACY OF THE INFORMATION REGISTERED AT THIS ADDRESS AND WE HAVE NOW CONTACTED THE SUBSCRIBER CONCERNED. CARE SHOULD THEREFORE BE TAKEN WHEN USING THE DATA AT THIS ADDRESS TO ASSESS THE CREDITWORTHINESS OF THE INDIVIDUAL CONCERNED.
This doesn't read well to me.... I have just received my AIP from Halifax now I'm scared this will change something when we apply for my full mortgage. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing. It sounds like they're querying everything at my current address.
I'm also worried now they'll get the proper dates and it will become an "official" default. Beginning to wish I'd left it alone.
I really don't like Equifax
Any ideas guys?0 -
Raise an official complaint with HSBC. Nothing should be reported on your credit files whatsoever. If they don't get Experian to remove it, you can go to the ombudsman after 8 weeks (or sooner if they issue a final response to the complaint which isn't to your satisfaction.)0

Thank you
I guess the saving grace is its not looking like we will find a house or anything for at least 2 months so I have time to try and sort this out x 0 -
Hi everyone, just thought I would update you on this - Equifax response after contacting HSBC was "account will be deleted". No apology, no removal of the notice of correction so now I am fighting to get that taken off. Equifax are just a really horrible agency to contact!
Anyway it looks as if all is sorted now anyway. Just as well as I'm viewing houses this week!!!!
Thanks everyone for your kind help0
