    Hi

I have always had Prestige pressure cookers. I started out with an aluminium hi dome with weights, but don't use that one any more. My mum gave me one that had belonged to my Dad's mum (she died a couple of years or so before I was born, so I never met her) This one must have dated back to the 1950s at least. It worked fine, but the valve was different so couldn't be replaced. My MIL then gave me one which had some 1980s gizmo on top. It was quite fiddly to use & the thing on top broke so that was the end of that one.

But now I have a Prestige smart plus, it doesn't have weights quite the same, but is just as simple and straightforward to use. And it's stainless steel - so really good!

    Kuhn Rikon

Me too and I love it. The quality of the stell makes it so much nicer to use and it is so quiet.

I have a Kuhn Rikon from Lakeland and it's worth every penny. It's a doddle to use, and totally non-scary! However there are many happy users of Prestige and Tower cookers on this board as well, which are cheaper.

I know you can get models that operate at lower pressures, but the standard pressures are 15lbs and 10lbs - the Kuhn Rikon can do both. Pretty much all recipes will use one of these pressures. TBH if you're going to get a pressure cooker, you might as well get one that does proper pressures and cooks as quickly as possible.

I'm sure mine has paid for itself. We cook on Calor gas which is a) v. expensive and b) has the habit of running out at the most inopportune time. I couldn't justify cooking chickpeas on the hob when they take 90mins in a normal saucepan - they cook in 15mins in the PC.

Aluminium isn't magnetic, so if a magnet doesn't stick to your PC then it's aluminium.

I would get the biggest one you can store easily, so if you have the room go for the 10l one. There are only 2 of us and I use a big pressure cooker, particularly for quick stews, steam puddings etc.

Mine is a Tefal. I bought it as a "twin set", as it came with a sautee pan with glass lid but can also the sautee pan can be used as a mini pressure cooker as well.

  • I have a Kuhn Rikon 5.0 litre, which I use frequently. I also have a Prestige model but the Kuhn Rikon wins hands down: it is extremely easy to use and very quiet. I have a small family and the 5.0 litre size does all I need it to do. I did think about buying a larger one, but was worried about storage and lifting it! I wouldn't be without a pressure cooker - they're great!
