OK, I give in, does anyone have any idea where I can get an Ohsawa pot in the UK see http://www.wisementrading.com/cooking/pressurecookers.htm. I've googled and found zilch outlets here.
Forget it lol, I've just discovered because the pot is so thick and the way the porceleine works.., it take 45 mins to cook brown rice with this in a pressure cooker. No thanks lol.0 -

Cost only £10 more the kuhn rikon.... and I got it from Lakeland too!!

GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)0 -
I cook brown rice in a pressure cooker just by putting twice as much water to rice by volume in a pyrex bowl and then standing the pyrex bowl on top of the trivet in the PC. Then add the minimum amount of water specified in the manual and cook for as long as it says in the Kuhn Rikon manual. No special pot needed:D
I've also used the PC a lot for cooking fruit for jam this year - some wild plums from the bottom of the garden were done in 7 mins in the PC. Slit them round with a knife and after cooking the stones all float up and you can skim them off.0 -
Sounds good seraphina.., I am putting some small fruit tree's in soon I hope (and replacing my stolen tayberry bushes grrr). I'm looking forward to making the soups and casseroles (and roasts) I love in the cooker I am getting. Altho if the 7l kuhm rikon works out ok, I may get the frying pan type one for meat later on.0

Hi,
been thinking about getting a pressure cooker for a while, and saw a Prestige 4L tower cooker at half price (£20) in my local Coop.
Haven't done any research on the different types, but was wondering whether it was a good one.
It has a weight on top, which apparently gives one pressure of 12lb.
Will I be able to get reasonable sized portions in this size?? Is the type a decent one. Or should I take it back and spend the money on a more fancy/bigger one??
Thanks0 -
I love mine and use it most days because it saves so much on gas/electricity as it is only on for a fraction of the time. I had so many slow cooker disasters that I put it to the back of the cupboard and bought a pressure cooker 2 years ago. Mine doesn't have the weight thing you have but just read the instructions. Prestige is a good make for pressure cookers.
It is great for homemade soups. I do lentil, leek and potato, minestrone etc in there. I let it "hiss" full blast for 2 minutes and switch the gas off. I usually just leave it to cool down because it carries on cooking for free!
Anything with mince I make goes in there eg chilli, bolognese, mince for cottage pie. I let it hiss for 5 mins then off. Same with chicken dishes.
As long as there is enough water in there (read the manual) and I sometimes oil the rubber ring for a better seal.
With mine I can run it under the cold tap to release the pressure if I want my meal in a hurry.
I'll watch this thread for other tips but you'll love it!"Sealed Pot Challenge" member 1069!

Hi, thanks for that - sounds like it may become the most useful bit of kit in my kitchen. Do you think 4L is big enough (it seems quite big!!), we are only 2 adults and one child, but do like to batch cook sometimes!!

Pressure cookers are great, I could not live without one!
As we are mostly vegetarians in this family I cook a lot of pulses (after soaking) and even the hardest beans (kidney, chick peas) are tamed into submission in just one hour or so of pressure cooking.
I am sure you will enjoy your pressure cooker. Well done on getting one at such a good price, too! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi lelole,
I have a prestige and would highly recommend it. These threads have lots of advice:

Thanks, will it make much difference if it only has a 12lb weight, been looking into it and it seems that others have 2 different weights??
Thanks
