Hi, Just to say, I just used it!!

I had made soem chicken stock yesterday in the slow cooker, so bunged that in with some carrots, shrooms, and pearl barley, and it was delicious - ready in 24mins (plus cooling time!!)

    Thanks

I let it "hiss" full blast for 2 minutes and switch the gas off. I usually just leave it to cool down because it carries on cooking for free!

What a super idea. Must try it.

    regards

Does anyone have the pressure cooker that was on offer in Aldi recently for £29.99?

I think it was this one below.

I'm not sure if they will have any left but I saw some last night in our local Aldi for £19.99, would it be worth buying, it is stainless steel?

Can anyone tell me if aluminum pressure cookers are a health risk then why are they still being sold?

I have been looking at the Prestige Smartplus it seems to get good reviews but only the lid is stainless steel.

Ok, I have had a rethink regarding the Aldi ones. They probably won't have any left anyway as they only had 2 and I was thinking they may be a bit of a faff trying to get spare parts for them.

I have just provisionally reserved a Prestige Smartplus 5ltr one (only need one for 2 to 3 people) which is reduced from £48 to £38.40 in Debenhams.

Can anyone tell me if this is worth going for please?

I was wondering, if we start having power cuts then we only have electric to cook on but we do have a couple of those gas camping stoves, maybe it would be a good idea to have a pressure cooker so that we could have a decent meal!

I have a Skyline aluminium pressure cooker and a set of aluminium saucepans which have been regularly used for about 40 years and we're still alive and kicking! I think the scare about aluminium cooking implements was batted around ages ago when people were snatching at straws in the air to try and discover what caused Alkzeimers Disease (i.e. a relative who used aluminium saucepans developed Alkzeimers - not a very scientific theory). They've also blamed, amongst other things, too much fat in the diet, too much alcohol and lack of exercise. The latest theory is that it's all in our genes. I'm sticking with my alumium pans until somebody comes up with some scientific proof.

Anything with mince I make goes in there eg chilli, bolognese, mince for cottage pie. I let it hiss for 5 mins then off. Same with chicken dishes.

    Blimey, that is quick!

I have reserved a 5ltr Prestige Smartplus at Debenhams and I was undecided whether get it or not but you have just persuaded me to buy it.

    Ta!

In 1963 my grandmother got a Prestige Hi-Dome that was passed on to my mum after she died. Mum regularly cooked for us (family of 6) using it and it ALWAYS came on holiday with us in our campervan - absolute Godsend on a two-ring burner!!!!! She was still using it for years after I left home in 1972. At that time I got my own (same model) and used that non-stop for 17yrs until I separated from ex-OH and he kept it to annoy the heck out of me .

I now have the 4litre Prestige Hi-Dome - that I absolutely adore. I also have a perfectly serviceable Magefesa that my son found in an empty house - but it's 'a bit of a faff' to get the lid on - still works fine though :).
  • If hissing bothers you (and it does me) Kuhn Rikon is the answer. A whole new generation of PC and I love it and am now trying to persuade myself that I don't need the 'frying pan' shaped one as well !
  • I have both the Prestige smartplus(the stainless steel one,not the cheaper aluminium),and the kuhn Rikon...and sad to say i now prefer the prestige...havent used the kuhn rikon for ages, ive had problems with it going over pressure,i have to stand beside it with a wooden spoon and press on the wee springy thing when it whooses and the indicator rises too high...frightens the life out of me...i think its because even my smallest gas ring is too powerfull for it...i keep meaning to contact lakeland to see if they will accept it as a return, the stainless steel smartplus is a good PC.
PS,im off to check Debenhams...may get another at that price. :)
