Recommend me a pressure cooker

I've just bought a new pressure cooker because I like them in theory but the one I have (a Tefal Clipso) terrifies me by being very hissy. I got a Kuhn Rikon because I was told they don't hiss and burp (before that I had a prestige Hi-Dome for years but it terrified me too, and then the base became all warped and I just use it as a big pot now.) BUT: the Kuhn Rikon seems unbelievably good because it really doesn't hiss and burp and is not terrifying. I cooked an elderly pheasant I found in the freezer and it seems tender and tastes very good, no hissing, very quick, nothing burnt on the bottom. Hoorah !
(Had to tell someone - thanks for listening !!) :j0 -
I have a Tefal Clipso and I can assure you madame it has never burped.:rotfl:
They only hiss until up to pressure, once the valve has sealed they are quiet as a mouse. Probably better on gas, as I turn the flame right down till it is just visible and that is sufficient to keep the pressure up. Its a joy to clean as well.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
Anybody know if Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers come with baskets or are they available separately?0

I got my 7 litre from there plus the basket set for a very good price. My 2.5 litre is the model 3346 24cm frypan style like this

I have had several brands of PC and the Kuhn Rikon wins hands down for quality.
I love this site....I have no-one in real life who shares my love of cooking and gadgets.
do you find the 2 bowl set useful and in what way would you use them?0 -
Seems to be you buy the baskets as accessories but some here available with baskets included for a good price...

I used to have a hissing clipso0

I could never be sure if my Clipso was up to the correct pressure or not as I kept having to turn it down to stop the extreme hissing, and then once it had (slowly) stopped I'd worry that it had lost pressure, so I was constantly hovering over it and wondering if I was about to redecorate the ceiling at any moment with yummy chicken stock etc. With the Kuhn Rikon it doesn't hiss but is still up to the right pressure as you can see the little red rings. I love it !0

I cooked beetroots in the KR yesterday and put the pressure cooker on my portable induction hob. I accidentally left the setting a bit too high and saw the KR work as it is meant to ie it went over the second ring quickly and it just let out some steam quietly to release the pressure. My prestige hi dome would have taken flight and so would have the clipso
I am def getting another smaller one as I can see the attraction of a smaller pan under pressure. I am not getting the frying pan shape because I don`t have a big area left for pans.
I am managing to cook veg nicely on top of the main dish and the taste is lovely, so much so that my slow cooker has been chucked0 -
Would you say that the 5 litre Kuhn Rikon would be a good size to go for, for a family of four?0

I think a 5l should be ideal. The Kuhn Rikon is marked inside with the recommended levels of 1/2 full and 2/3 full which is handy to avoid overfilling. I have a 7l which handy for bulk cooking but really too big for my one adult/one child household. My 2.5l frypan is fine but they don`t make baskets to fit it ( I have used the smaller trivet and basket from my 7l sometimes) so I find myself thinking that a 2.5 or 3.5 standard shape would also be handy......0
