I love my pressure cooker! It saves so much time and money.Actually I think it is my second or third (I have been married 30 years). I use it for soups and stews. It is excellent for cooking pulses quickly - butter beans for the soup, kidney beans for chilli con carne etc. iIt saves steamy kitchens at Christmas time when I cook the Christmas puds. also because it is such a large pan I use it for cooking pasta in the normal way.0

Now THAT'S a bargain :T!0 -
I cook soups ,stews (lamb/beef stew in about 30 mins) veg, stock, you name it I cook it speedily and economically (and very tastily) in my pressure cooker. I don't like slow cookers as I work at home and hate having the whole house smelling of food all day (no help to a dieter !) and everything I cooked in mine tasted the same and had all fallen apart (it is going to a happy Freecycler this afternoon). In the past I have had a prestige Hi Dome, and a Tefal clipso, both of which worked fine but put me off because they do hiss and burble and scared me, but about 6 months ago I discovered the KUHN RIKON which Lakeland sell. It is a MIRACLE (I wish I got comission!) it is easy to use, is completely silent (in fact if it hisses you're doing it wrong) is easy to use and has a nice little cookbook you can get as an extra which helped me make the best marmalade I have ever made (in 36 years of making marm). I would never go back to a hissy one now, and indeed wouldn't suggest that anyone of a nervous disposition shoud have an 'ordinary' hissy one if they could have a Kuhn Rikon instead.....:T
PS the one on the link above is a fantastic bargain, my KR was about £80.00 but I'd still go for a non-hissy one.0 -
Definitely go for a Kuhn Rikon - I got one at Christmas from Lakeland and it's utterly fabulous. I would also avoid one of the hissy ones like the one in the Littlewoods advert - the KR is almost silent.
They are, IMO, far superior to slow cookers, which I think are pretty rubbish as a vegetarian. I can batch cook pulses, freeze them and save lots of money over canned pulses. I can make great tagines in about 20 mins, french onion soup in about 15 mins, my Christmas puddings take only 2 hours instead of 8.
I also do little creme caramels in mini ramekins - pour in the custard mix, cover with foil and cook for 4 mins instead of having the oven on for ages.
I'm surprised they're not used more on here - they are very efficient!0 -

Seraphina I think lots of people on here do use pressure cookers but for some reason feel inferior to the slow-cooker users ! We should 'come out' and start a new thread : 'What have you cooked in your pressure cooker today'. I always feel a bit embarassed to admit that I hate my slow cooker, but my pressure cooker and I are very good friends.:beer:0

I have often thought about starting just such a thread:rotfl:I also get very frustrated when 1st time posters on the OS board go "Help! I want to be OS but I don't have a slow cooker!"
Also, I think everything turns to mush in a slow cooker - at least in a pressure cooker it only does that if I've forgotten about it.....0 -

Someone started a thread with that title a few weeks ago, but unfortunately got very few replies.
What's in your pressure cooker today?
Why not go and bump it up with what you're cooking in your pressure cookers.
