Recommend me a pressure cooker

Our Prestige pressure cooker was a wedding present in 1979 and it has only needed a new gasket in all those years. Great for stews and soups. I wouldnt be without it.0

My grandmother got one (Prestige Hi-Dome) when grandad retired from work in 1963 - and that eventually went to my mum. It got mislaid when she sold her house in 1985. I bought a second-hand one (again a Hi-Dome) in 1972, when I first got married but let OH keep it when we split up in 1990 - darn, what a big mistake! I bought another Hi-Dome about three years ago and absolutely love it.
They do seem scarey till you get used to them making noises, but they work wonders for cheap cuts of meat.
I even used them for sterilising bottles when my three kids were born - no chemicals, just steam under pressure :j.0 -
I have used pressure cookers for 50 years and have never had a better one than the one I have now, called Khun Rikon. I got it from lakeland and it is so quiet and safe and without bells and whistles to go wrong. I love it, the best one EVER
edit: I once had pea soup all over the ceiling, 35 years ago with a prestige and vegetables cook very well if you use a steamer in the pan on the trivet or on a stew etc. They just get about 4 minutes
mmm I didn`t know they did 2.5 litre pressure cookers. I am tempted as I only said the other day that I wished they did 8" pressure cookers. I have found a whole different range of Khun Rikon on the net0 -
Thank you all for your replies, it definitely sounds like I'll find a pressure cooker very useful so I'll be taking a trip to Argos armed with some gift vouchers I have to pick one up.
I'm not sure what size to go for though. There is 4l, 5.5l and 7l. Normally there's only my husband and myself to cook for, but occasionally there might be four of us. I wonder if the 7l one would be overkill.0 -

You can cook a small meal in a large cooker but you cant cook a large meal in a small cookerI used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
There are 2 of us and I use the 5l, which makes plenty for 4 people. Potatoes are going to be lost in the base of a 7l0

kittie, if you are thinking of another Kuhn Rikon I recommend this site for the best prices but they don`t have the whole range...

I got my 7 litre from there plus the basket set for a very good price. My 2.5 litre is the model 3346 24cm frypan style like this

I have had several brands of PC and the Kuhn Rikon wins hands down for quality.
I love this site....I have no-one in real life who shares my love of cooking and gadgets. :beer:0 -
I have a Tower (wedding gift nearly 20 years ago) and it's still going strong :T
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add this to the existing Which PC thread to give you more ideas

It's years since I used one but I'm now attracted to the Khun Rikon.
Can anyone who has one of these tell me if they cook pasta in it? What is the result like?0 -
I've got a WMF pressure cooker and it's vry good. Seems a lot less scary than my mum's old one!0
