Are you a worrier?

  • I'm a total worrier, like like my Mum :) When worrying stops me being productive, I write everything down and make a plan. Often that's all that is required. I worry that things are worse than they actually are, but I'm nonsensically afraid that writing it all down will prove that I'm a total failure. Mad!

Different for day to day worry - I've sort of managed to train myself out of that, but occasionally I find myself catastrophising that something awful has happened if OH is home later than expected - can't do much about that except to talk myself down and say that there's nothing I can do about it.

I'm a worrier, and often very anxious. I don't think about catastrophy, just prone to turn things over and over in my head.
I am certainly confident, and I don't think anyone would call me lazy. I am proactive and like to always be busy.
I am still in the process of training myself to deal with this destructive habit. When i become aware that i am over thinking, i sing a song in my head. This distracts me from the overthinking, and will evenutally I hope, break the habit. It's a work in progress.

I'm not much of a worrier. I tend to put plans of action in place so that if A happens/doesn't happen, I go to plan B.

I do worry about my husband's health and mental health, but there's nothing I can do about that.

Having said that, I do sometimes have sleepless nights when we get a summons from a certain relative. She's hard work, used to be a social worker, but has never married/co-habited, or had kids, but thinks she can tell us what to do as if we were children. And she blows hot and cold, so within the same conversation, she can be all nice and understanding, then starts laying down the law on something that has nothing to do with her.

Last year, she told me I HAD to kick my son out by spring! (I ignored her.)
  • Thanks for all your replies. I think my problem is that I have a problem and instead of waiting to see how it pans out I fast forward to the doomsday scenario, and convince myself that is what will happen. I am worst in bed late at night. I am my mother reincarnated. Haha how I hoped not to ever say that.
  • Its not easy living with constant worry and anxiety. You have to work at it and stop yourself. If you wake up worrying or cant sleep from worrying get up and do something different for awhile and force yourself to stop thinking about what is worrying you - you are the master of your mind and only you can change your thoughts. Get yourself some self help books there's loads of them out there - such as 'the monk who sold his ferrari'. What ever it is you are worrying about put it on a scale of 1 - 10 of how life threatening it is and whether in a year from now it will matter? you have to try and reframe it and put it into perspective as to how important it is. Meditation helps if you can relax enough to do it ! Its not easy, you have to work at it, I know because I'm a born worrier and like you inherited in my genes :)

I posted quite early on in this thread, stating I really don't worry at all.it's hard for me to think what kind of things you mean. Could you maybe give examples?

I have friends who worry and until they tell me I wouldn't have have dreamt it to be something to worry about, if that makes sense.

Once a friend was over, my hubby has a dangerous sport - some would think - and he said he'd be home for 7 (can't remember exact time). Friend left at about 8 and said to me not to worry hubby wasnt home - it hasn't crossed mymind to worry.... She then called me at about 9 to ask if he was home and when I said no she was really concerned. It only sticks in my mind as I remember her asking over and over how I wasn't worried.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Yes, I would have been very worried by 9 in your shoes! I would have had him knocked unconscious and unable to contact me, and the hospital not knowing his identity, and him dying from his injuries alone. This what I do, I fast forward to the worst scenario imaginable. I torture myself with the possibilities.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I catasrophise. It drives me nuts and I put the mental brakes on as early as possible.

I do have a faith so I tend to use that quite a lot (passing my worries on).

It takes a lot of effort for some people not to worry, but it's worth the effort to try to overcome it.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

For those of you who are prone to worrying, maybe these would help

    https://www.fabu-licious.com/guatemalan-small-worry-dolls-in-bag?gclid=CL-n4Nra5coCFYTGGwodL_4J5g
These cute Guatemalan Small Worry Dolls in Bag arrive as a set of six individual dolls and are displayed on a card in a brightly coloured stripey woven bag. The story behind why Worry Dolls were created is as follows - 'An old story tells that when the Maya Indians of Guatemala had worries, they would tell them to the worry people. At night they would place the worry people under their pillows and when they woke, the worry people had taken their worries away. This handmade product has been ethically source and made by the Maya Indians who live in the highlands of Guatemala. They make their living from agriculture in the rural areas of the country and are often dependent on alternative forms of income.'
