Eeek! Horribly bad practice to mess with the PATH environment variable! Even Microsoft are occasionally guilty of this...
Huh. I'd never heard that before. I remember having to modify the PATH environment variable quite a bit in the days of DOS.
Well, in that case, maybe the executable should have been installed to a location referenced by the default PATH...?
It seems strange to have to enter a full path to run an executable.0 -
This is a faster way:
1. Go to iPlayer and look at address bar for your programme. Note the number part eg http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06z2561
2.Copy and paste link below into Word/Wordpad etc.
get_iplayer --pid=b04mctvz --type=radio
2.Copy and paste the number from iPlayer that is in the address bar for your chosen program which is similar to b04mctvz in exactly the same place after the equal sign. Don't change any spacing.
3. Copy and paste the whole line into Getiplayer. ( If spacing is not exact it won't work. Don't type it, copy and paste it.)
4. Press enter and it will download.

If you can't work it out tell me which program you want and I'll do the line for you to copy and paste.0 -
What a lot of advice, thanks all but you must be able see why I'm not sure which poster to take advice from now!
I have i_player in the list which opens up after pressing start, also that VCL is downloaded hence me thinking this was where I needed to type I'm the commands. There is a desk top icon to put saved programmes in, loaded at the time I downloaded i_player,Mobutu says file is empty.
So .... I've been otherwise occupied today but tonight Inwill fire up the slow laptop, open this advice on the I pad so I can follow the thread and try to work my way to the Wogan programme which was on Richard Madely on Sunday morning.
If I do As I said I won't be able to copy and paste,MSE,mist difficult for a novice.
I will get onto it after 7pm and report back.
Thanks0 -
As compmad1 says, you can get the pid by searching via the web. In that case, this command will download the Terry Wogan Special:
get_iplayer --type=radio --pid b0711pt7
You can even copy and paste the whole URL of the BBC website page that lets you playback the audio/video programme. So this will work too:get_iplayer --type=radio "http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0711pt7"

Flipping heck, I think I might have done it! Used esuhl, second suggestion and it has downloaded to the desktop icon. The funny part of it is that this is not actually the programme that I heard on Sunday am. The one I listened to was the Richard Madeley programme. However, I haven't listened to this one so it will be good to hear this one.
I will try to find other programmes by using your other posts and the guide too.
Thanks so very much for all the help thus far. It might be helpful to others reading through too. I will definitely try the Desert Island discs programmes too.
One last question... Now the programme is in the desktop folder will it stay there for all time to listen to again and again?
I do appreciate all the help and patience given.

Ooh! That would probably breach the "fair use" copyright terms. Get_iplayer will prompt you after a month when your fair use expires. You could just say "no" or copy the file somewhere else so it doesn't get deleted, but you wouldn't do that, would you?0 -

Ah, right! This is the Madely on Sunday programme; a tribute to Terry Wogan:get_iplayer --type=radio "http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06yjry7"

Ha ha! You're not a fan of "proper" operating systems, then?
EDIT: Actually, I just had a look and it looks pretty nifty if you like to avoid the command line.
A fan errr OH GOD NO....
I did enough typing in my younger days, why type a million characters when a couple of mouse clicks does it all
I almost converted my parents PC to Linux Mint, I thought with a background change they wont notice..
Until i had to install a driver manually and thought they wont manage that. Probably quicker for em to take a 3 hour+ drive over to them and do it.
Nope they are sticking with windows.
Its a case of i can but i really do not want to. the PVR manager works quite well, but shhh dont tell anyone it can still accept commands in some boxes.
download quality can be changed by setting it to best for instance.
Get the OP to use PVR manager they will like it i think.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
