Recording a radio programme?

Options
Hi, I've got an I pad and a PC and wonder what's the easiest way to record a radio programme to either.

There are lovely programmes with great music on radio 2 today, a tribute to Terry Wogan. They will be on I player for a month but how can I save them for future listening please?

Thanks

    get_iplayer is the usual recommendation.

I'm not a regular user, others on here are the experts.
It uses the command line and works well.
It's useful to have a guide open while using it.

    Move along, nothing to see.
  • Thanks, I've got I player but not used it much. I looked at the link you gave but I'm not sure if I need that if I've got the I player installed.

Maybe someone else will come by later.
    Thanks again

    ... I've got I player...
It's get_iplayer you need to download radio shows to your PC (from spud's link above) not I player.
Then you can copy it from your PC to your iPad if you wish.

  • Right, got you, I'll fire up the laptop later, it's very slow to get going then runs ok, and download that.

    Thanks for the confirmation.
  • BBC do podcasts as well of a lot of their shows which means you can keep them forever if you wanted, with iplayer I think you only have a limited time to listen to them, it varies depending on which program it is, eg 30 days.

Podcasts often only include a reduced amount of music though, so if it's the music the OP wants that may not be a suitable option - I think it's a paying for rights issue.

Yes, but the advice is for get_iPlayer, which essentially turns all programmes into podcasts so that they can be kept for ever.
  • I've downloaded it to my PC but not sure how to proceed from here. I will watch some "how to" videos and see if that helps me.

Almost all Freeview PVRs can record radio and many can convert recordings into standard audio formats like mp2.

Open a command prompt and run this command:
    get_iplayer --get 12906

That will download the "Terry Wogan Special" that was broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

    There's a guide to using get_iplayer here:
