How long before acceptable to fart in front of partner?

It isn't a nice function and really should only be done in private. I think it shows a lack of respect for your partner and really isn't ever socially acceptable. I think I was taught this along with good manners. Familiarity breeds contempt, and feeling free to fart in front of anyone is pretty unpleasant!0

Quite a few posters have disagreed that it shows a lack of respect for your partner.
It may not be socially acceptable but sometimes it just cannot be helped. Obviously everyone is different and some people do fart more than others.
I have IBS and am also vegetarian, as is OH. We eat lots of beans, lentils, chickpeas etc and maybe they give us wind. I know I certainly suffer quite a bit which, I guess, is a combination of the food I eat and my IBS.
I certainly never fart on purpose and on the odd occasion it has happened in public I have been very very embarrassed. Happily I don't have to feel embarrassed in my own homeThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -

I agree with Catkins. How on EARTH can it be disrespectful to your partner to break wind in front of them?!

I would never fart in front of people at work, but when I am home in the comfort of our surroundings it can happen.
In fact just this very evening my husband, rushing around, looking for his car keys, his shoes and grabbing his coat made a small trouser cough. I informed him that he had lost all respect for me, all the romance was gone, he obviously didn't care.
But I suspect he knew I was joking and we will stay as close as we have always been.
If only people know what goes on behind closed doors, if you met us i am sure we wouldn't be seen as anything more than a close knit average middle aged couple, rather than one harbouring a secret of witnessing each others occasional trumps.0 -

I wouldn't be mortified if I farted in front of OH, but I would apologise and would never do it deliberately.
Btw: I am vegetarian.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Some say they would not fart at work which could be sensible. I knew someone who lost his job over a fart at work. I was working in a large office when one very respectable elderly man let rip, obviously thinking it would be silent. Everyone was too polite to say anything except one young chap who said loudly "That's the most sensible thing you have said all day, Charlie". Everybody fell about laughing and Charlie went very red and rushed out of the office. A while later the chap who made the remark was called to the boss's office and told he had a week to find another job or he would be sacked.0
