I'd like to point out that my comments are not always a demand. I mean, I can't force a person I don't know to do anything can I! It's more about suggesting the possible options, and letting someone think about the suggestion and what can truly be done.

When I started on DFW boards I had a car. Only a cheap one (cost me £650) and I loved it. I used it to hop around a lot and visit my Mum and such. Well everyone told me I should get rid of it. I tried to justify it but eventually, I began to realise that people suggesting I get rid of my car were in fact correct. So I did. I sold it and I made do.

There is a concept called the "echo chamber" which is very prevalent on the internet. If all you ever do is hear people say what you want to hear, then you are living in an echo chamber. Nothing really gets fixed in echo chambers, people just solidify their own ideals with no critical thought. I'm not necessarily saying that's what's happening here but it's a good point to make.

Forums are intended to be a place of mass-communication from all members of the public. The Romans invented the forum as "a gathering place of great social significance, and often the scene of diverse activities, including political discussions and debates, rendezvous, meetings, et cetera". It's therefore very difficult to say "I don't want to hear what you have to say, go away, this is my space" because it's not. Your own space might be a blog where you control the content and control the comments. But you don't have that option here.

All I would say is that when a criticism comes in, it's useful to process it and decide if it's right for you. You'll know if you are strong in your resolve. But if there is just a tiny bit of self-doubt inside you about that situation, then a criticism might make you reconsider.

My son frequently turns up with about 15 shirts to iron, he'll do his own washing but hates ironing. Plus he doesn't have an iron or ironing board ! It's his way of getting me to iron for him :) He knows i love ironing so brings them all at once. He pays me by paying for a takeaway !

I timed myself last time i did them, 15 shirts took me 70 minutes whilst watching TV. He hangs them up to dry too, i agree that they're far easier to iron left to dry like this. Separate fabric softener helps too. I have a steam generator too, pain to set up but faster than a normal iron.

Ours is set up with generator on the floor not on the board the steam hoses are plenty long enough, not the best location in the house but OK for watching the TV.

When the OH gets round to sorting out a junk/spare room it will go in there with a TV on a NowTV box to do streaming for free.

if you could set up somehwhere the kid(s...) don't go so just the boards to put up take down that might work.
  • My husband irons his own shirts (and when he was a chef, his whites).. He says I can't do them well enough.......

There's a teensy weensy chance that's deliberate incompetence on my part

also, God love him, he's 6'3" and nearly 25 stone, his shirts are like sails! I'd be there all night.

Am I crazy for never ironing anything?! I will, at best, iron the odd thing a year. I just hang all my clothes to dry. I don't think they look creased!

I only iron BFs shirts if we are going to a fancy dinner and he's selected a very crisp shirt. Mainly he wears oxford cotton shirts which I don't think need ironing.

Just though without the need for double beds in your house there should be room in one of the bedrooms to set up :)
  • Quick question for everyone. Is it possible to buy a private reg really cheaply e.g.. less than £100. Is this possible? I will be judged by my car reg in my work. People will expect me to have a newish car in my profession - that sounds awfully shallow I know. It's a lovely car and looks pretty new but it's almost 13 years old. Is there any way I can change this? Having such an old car is something I am going to be very aware of when I go to visit clients. Puts on armour and gets ready for the backlash : )))))
  • Just seen the new posts re ironing - thank you!!! Back soon - off for school run time : )

The make and model will probably be a give away.

Usual trick is park a bit further away so they can't see you get out of it.
(or next to something really nice and pretend)

you can't put a recent dated plate it has to be older probably other rules.

the transfer fees are £80 before you pay for anything else £150-£200 for something might fit.

google there are loads of place that sell them and you can read up on the rules.

I don't iron either, unless I really have too - which is as little as possible.
