Morning!!! Really shouldn't be on here. I actually came on to give myself a good kick as I contemplated ringing up the ironer and asking her to come and do these ten terribly creased shirts for me (would cost about £15) I'm going to resist but it is eating up so much time. Every night I want to get onto YNAB, look for work, work on my website etc etc and I don't want to spend valuable time ironing. I only get a small window of time to work on things, usually when the children are in bed. I really don't want to be ironing then. But I will resist temptation. I will hang the shirts from now on but these ones are terrible!!!
I really don't want the softly softly treatment. I need all kinds of advice including constructive criticism. What I do object to is basically being told I am not being honest. Honesty could be my middle name; I wear my heart on my sleeve far too much. So being told several times that my story keeps changes grates. I have only changed two minor details in this diary as not doing so would certainly identify me. And that's it - nothing that would affect the overall picture for people to be able to help me. I am acutely aware that if I alter the facts people are spending time on me which is thwarted.
Meer - you have always had my respect and I enjoy your posts - your criticism is important to me and I am grateful for that. Getmore - you have always been great too but haven't always patted me on the back - again, I am truly grateful to you for that!
Right, off to get some work done. I have a huge list of things to do and haven't got anything done yet.0 -
FT,
Iron the shirts you need for the rest of this week (ie tomorrow)& shove the rest back in the washing machine on a quick wash...tumble them and hang them. Voila a whole pile of very creased shirts become a load of not too bad shirts.PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!0 -
Just what I was thinking Willowpop.
Forward thinking, you really need to cut down the amount of time you spend ironing when there are much more valuable things you could be doing. Lots of people never iron. I find that a bit strange but you can make things much easier by hanging things up as soon as they come out of the washing machine/ tumble drier, deciding what things really need ironing, and as already suggested getting your older child to help out, maybe for a bit of pocket money. My daughter started her own ironing when she was only ten and was perfectly able to do it. Maybe the other children could help out with some different things around the house. Doesn't do them any harm and might lessen your workload so that you can concentrate on other things. Just a suggestion.0 -
Thanks Willow - I started writing a message to my ironer and before I hit send I came on here to give myself a moment. I'll cancel the text - I know I will be really cross with myself if she does them for me. I did actually think of washing them again - I think I will. They're just dreadful. Thanks for helping me to stop being naughty!0

my BIL works in very very corporate environment and my sister refuses to iron for him as he is so fussy and wears about 2 or sometimes even 3 different shirts a day. He does them himself even though she is the one at home with the children. Her response has always been he couldn't do the job he does if she were to work he is away from home too much and the days are too long even if they were to have a live-in nanny - which they don't0

Well done that woman. Well done.MFW Challenge 2019 - £2,420 / £2,420 - 100% :T0 -
Another thought, if the iron set up is put up taken down ever time that can be a pain.
if there is somewhere to have it up all the time plugged in ready to turn on and a few minutes worth of ironing that can just fill the odd gap in the day makes life a lot reasier.
Be very selective about what really needs doing.0 -
:undecided It was difficult moneymission! Would have been easier to text ironer, send shirts on way, receive back in 24 hours looking beautifully pressed on hangers! : ((0

Totally agree getmore and I did consider how I could do this. But there's no room to have the ironing board up permanently and I have one of those steam generators which is really heavy and would hurt landing on little one's head. Little one is into trying to pull everything down. But you're totally right - just getting the iron board into the living room, set up, then getting iron ready (which requires adaptor from the microwave because we bought it abroad) is painful.0
