  • Having said that our burglar alarm has been beeping for about 7 weeks now and he hasn't got around to fixing that either.

I haven't got much advice to offer on the finances front, but this I can probably solve, having worked for a burglar alarm company for 15 years. If it's beeping regularly (1-min intervals or thereabouts), it's probably a smoke alarm that needs its battery changing. Even if it's a mains smoke alarm, it has a back-up battery (as I found out at home last year :( ) which does the same thing. If I had a pound for everyone who phoned up saying their alarm was beeping regularly, only for it to be the smoke alarm, I could've retired 12 years ago :D You can get PP3/9V batteries from Poundland; a stepladder or stool, maybe a screwdriver, and hopefully you're sorted (with or without hubby's help)! Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :rotfl:

  • Making great progress! Another one saying that I wouldn't read too much into OHs reluctance to sort out paperwork. My OH is actually a money advisor - his job is to teach people how to manage money, how to budget etc. Guess who deals with the joint finances? He sorts out his own, but he says he can't be bothered with doing at home what he does all day. Maybe your OH feels the same? Keep going! Once you get that SOA balanced you will be able to take action on the cards and you WILL be paying more than just interest.
  • Morning!!!! Internet was down yesterday and I really missed you all!!!! This site has become so important to me - thanks for being there. Will read back on your posts later so apologies if I don't acknowledge any questions just yet!!!! Gave up and went to bed early last night - amazing what a good night's sleep does.

Mrs Shazbat - you made me smile. I wrote burglar alarm to put myself off the radar - yes, it is indeed the smoke alarm that several friends have commented on. Thanks for the guidance although I suspect I have to completely turn all power supply off at the mains to avoid electrocution!!

Husband says he has all the information for me - actually volunteered that announcement although I don't have them yet. I asked him about Noodle and he said he is still extremely suspicious that the details don't get registered. He said he was joined up to Experian until 15 months ago and everything was absolutely clear and he has made sure it has stayed that way. So hopefully all good although I am going to sign up for the £2 check - thanks so much for that information.

You know, I think you all are completely right. I really do think husband isn't hiding anything from me. I do think he is burying his head somewhat though. However, something really interested occurred yesterday. A book arrived for him. Now, husband works in the psychology field and so I am used to books arriving all the time for him to do with his work. However, yesterday the title was 'Bringing your Boldest Self to your Biggest Challenge'. I have no idea whether he has bought this for work related purposes or for himself. Could it be that he has bought this for his own purposes? I will never know but hope he finds something in there that makes an impression.

Husband has been less anti everything this week. He has accepted I am doing the ironing, the cleaning and has accepted giving me access to the accounts. He has acknowledged my ringing up fuel suppliers without any comments and even asked me today if I could ring BT to see if we can get our phone bill any cheaper.....sign of a break through? Perhaps just ever so slightly.....

Jobs today - investigate water and gas/elec bills, bt, work on website.

Shopping feels a very different experience now. Before I used to just pull out a note and spend it on something nice for the children after school. I have avoided going in at all recently and today decided to treat them. Instead of buying separate treats I bought a pack of 3 and get one free. It feels so much more satisfying to know I am not throwing money away but getting good value. I have never experienced that before.
  • Not happy!! Postman just arrived with a delivery from Amazon. Turns out when husband ordered his psychology book he ordered a picture I had put in for my son's room for £23. I put it in my basket a couple of weeks ago before my LBM. Husband didn't notice because he says he ordered using his phone and why was I leaving something in the basket anyway. Asked if I was losing my marbles which went down very badly. As I pointed out to him, he should be taking more care of what he was ordering - should have looked at what was in the basket, then looked at the summary before ordering and ALSO looked at how much he was about to spend. He noticed none of these steps which would have shown him he was about to order a picture!!!!! It is just totally reflective of the fact that he spends without thinking about it. He is convinced it is totally not his fault - that he just did a quick order and I should never have left anything in the basket. I'm still convinced he was in the wrong. Know it doesn't really matter who was in the right or wrong but I am rattled. It's an epitome of how we spends that's all. Would have posted a sad face but can't find those icons at the moment. : ((

Hi Forward Thinking, I have been following your thread and think you are doing brilliantly. It does sound like hubby is gradually coming round to your way of thinking. With the Amazon order, I must admit I have done the same thing, on my phone you can do a quick order and it would be very easy to miss something which was lurking in the basket!

You can return the item quite easily-but I realise that for you, it is more a case of feeling hubby is not aboard the money saving bus!

If you can't find your smiley icons, it might be because you need to 'go advanced' when you are replying to your thread.

Good luck with it all :T
