On every post there is an edit/delete option.
(that will not delete anything that is in others posts "quoted")

I prefer if people edit posts and leave a note, especialy if there is some context for other peoples posts, threads quickly lose a lot if posts get deleted.

To delete a full thread you have to ask admins

You really should be using seperate amazon accounts.

allthough amazon is quite sticky and remembers the last account used on a computer

we have the same issue on our main PC the OH loves to browse and pop things in the basket to think about rather than buy.

if I want to buy stuff(not that often) I change user and logout when done(hidden at the bottom of the "your account" pull down menu)..

FT - you can delete posts by yourself, although some people seem to insist on dragging them back up again, how I don't know. I think the admin people actually have to delete threads in their entirety. If you are worried about people in RL recognising you I don't think you have put anything which may have outed you that I have noticed.

I was thinking, randomly yesterday about your gas and electricity and as a comparison we pay £104 per month from this month with extra energy which is a new company good for high users. We used to pay £144 per month with EON although when I switched in December they paid me back £127 as we were in credit. This is for a 4 bed detached, my OH really feels the cold and he sometimes works from home. We also have a 4 month old baby GD who sometimes stays overnight so heating is on longer then so you can see that your £350 per month is just off the wall. Have you ever switched or used a fixed deal?

Well done on all you are doing. I do hope things start to look up for you soon.

Not happy!! Postman just arrived with a delivery from Amazon. Turns out when husband ordered his psychology book he ordered a picture I had put in for my son's room for £23. I put it in my basket a couple of weeks ago before my LBM. Husband didn't notice because he says he ordered using his phone and why was I leaving something in the basket anyway. Asked if I was losing my marbles which went down very badly. As I pointed out to him, he should be taking more care of what he was ordering - should have looked at what was in the basket, then looked at the summary before ordering and ALSO looked at how much he was about to spend. He noticed none of these steps which would have shown him he was about to order a picture!!!!! It is just totally reflective of the fact that he spends without thinking about it. He is convinced it is totally not his fault - that he just did a quick order and I should never have left anything in the basket. I'm still convinced he was in the wrong. Know it doesn't really matter who was in the right or wrong but I am rattled. It's an epitome of how we spends that's all. Would have posted a sad face but can't find those icons at the moment. : ((

send the picture back. It is really easy to do from Amazon. Also get your own separate account and shut off one click ordering which I find too tempting . Hopefully the more you drum your money saving ways into your husband he will eventually learn. Sometimes it just takes a while as it is a massive shift to go from spending regardless to watching every penny you spend. As you both notice the difference though in your debts it will get easier. Can't remember if you said you have a Barclaycard but a number of people have said they have been open to reducing the interest rate as I don't think any of your debt is on 0% is it?

  • Thanks everyone. Amazing how time goes by on something you think will take half an hour. Santa bought little one a Leapfrog Reader system for xmas and have spent the whole morning trying to set it up. All done now and one happy toddler.

Thanks for the thoughts about the suppliers. I am going to look into this. I guess it's a matter of ringing up different suppliers. If anyone knows of a comparison site I would be hugely appreciative. The only thing I need to check is how much it would cost to change over when we leave the tenancy (need to do this according to the contract).

Interesting about the barclay card - yes, we're paying steep interest on ours but unsure what you mean by them being open to reducing it. I apologise for my limited knowledge on finances. I am very good at what I do but this is a steep learning curve. I have always left it to the other half.

Loads of utility supplyer comparison sites, you need to also look at cashback options, not done ours recently so not familar with the current offerings.

I was thinking your high bills, you don't do loads of washing(well you do the ironing pile is huge) and drying but have really ineffcient machines.

Older venting and condencer TD use a lot based on the standard 160 cycle(3 a week you may be doing more) it would have to be really bad or used a lot to be doing more than around £10 a week.

Might be worth looking at a supplier that throws you a free energy monitor or get a plug in one to go round checking where your using all the power.

Another thought, you don't have an electric water heater that has been left on, I have seen this before with rentals people forget to check them when they move in. It might just need a slog to find where it is all going and working through changes, leaving lights on with halogens/incandecants is often one culprit to high bills, kitchen downlighters a few 50w halogens on a few hours a day(say 10*4hr*365 will be over £100 a year .

You have had loads of helpful advice and tips but it will always be an uphill battle without hubby being invested 100%. I've been there and I can sympathise with the random shopping, I would never dare to leave him to do a big shop he would spend £££ but have nothing for a meal!! It only got better when he had his lightbulb moment, now that he is committed to paying off our debts he understands why it's so important to stick to budget. Another thing that made a big difference was me taking on 100% of the financial management. I simply give dh spends each month for his petrol, lunches etc which is all budgeted for and if he has money left over he either saves or spends it, as I have already included budgeted for it I don't mind what he does with it.

Another one who recommends Noddle, I got hubby's credit report as well I think you just need address history and a credit/debit card.

Sounds lovely have you a recipe?

Hi Sugarcube, will PM you. Unless anyone wants it ;) Also agree 'pots' like that are the way to go with 'easy spenders'. Its also why I like software like YNAB as it helps you forecast spend rather than just recording it. When we weren't in control and hugely in debt, using traditional budget/recording software felt just like bolting the door after the horse had bolted

FT - you can delete posts by yourself, although some people seem to insist on dragging them back up again, how I don't know.

Google cache you can often find them if reasonably quick.

I think better to edit out the stuff you don't want to linger rather than delete full posts.

Some people do temp posts you have something toask that will help you but you would prefer for it not not linger so say so, pick a time when people are about, post the info, ask people not to quote, and once you have a few answers delete the info.

Some are happy to go off line with pms I prefer not to but will do an odd bit if it would really helpfull but do like to try to get the jist of the help back on the board for others(with the bits missing), the reason I might have it wrong and need others to say so.

A question I have not asked because it will be hard to answer other than YES/NO without giving protentialy a lot away.

Does hubby even need a car?
could he could commute using public transport?
could he commute if you moved?

The answers are probably YES,NO(or yes but won't),YES(but see previous answer).
  • Thanks everyone. Spent TWO HOURS on the phone to fuel suppliers!!!!! Had no lunch, baby not fed and now have to rush out door for school run!!!!!!

Good news is we are swapping suppliers and will be paying £130 for gas and electricity instead of £200. So that's good. Plus they were so friendly (OVO as opposed to British Gas).

Hope not every change is not going to be this time consuming and painful!!!! It's taking up so much time.
