I only wear nightie/pjs in bed. I shower and get dressed before I go downstairs. Maybe if I had more glamorous nightwear I would lounge around in it.

My pyjamas and kaftans are far from glamorous but dogs aren't prepared to cross their legs and wait for you to shower and we always enjoyed a cup of tea in bed when we weren't working.

Whereas I'll put pyjamas on to do housework as I find them less restrictive than jeans and, as I'm never going to wear them out of the house, it doesn't matter if they get stained/bleached.

Most of my pyjamas etc have a white line across the tummy where I've bleached the work surfaces rather too liberally.:o

We lost our dog last year, she was 19 and is greatly missed. I used to let her into the garden for a wee while I got dressed before her walk so yes when I had a dog I did go downstairs for a minute before shower and getting dressed. My husband normally has a cup of tea in bed, and breakfast, but that is because he has to have something in his stomach before pain meds and he can't get up till they kick in. By the time he is up I have normally had a shower, got dressed, made his breakfast and sorted out his meds and taken them up, if grandchildren are here they are up and taken to school, done any washing up and put any washing on. Then I sit down and have breakfast and something to eat. I enjoy it more when all that is behind me. Catholic guilt I think, have to do the jobs first or I can't relax and enjoy my cuppa.

Just to clarify (as it was my post which gave rise to the points at issue) - I certainly wasn't commending this as a working pattern or a work/life balance. I think it's awful if anyone has to do it, whether out of financial necessity or the expectations of the job. My point was just that the man I mentioned, sleep-deprived and rushed as he is, manages to be clean and neat and properly dressed.

No, I realise you didn't think it was a good thing, who would other than an MP or Health Minister.

A young doctor I know regularly loses 12 to 14 lbs on their on call week when basically she can be working 24 hrs for 7 days straight. She is in a busy hospital so it is often that bad or close to it. It can't be healthy and it can't be safe, she is making life of death decisions and must be totally exhausted.

It is going from bad to worse with bile-spewing posters threatening to ring social services on a situation they embarrass themselves to rant about, but still, know little about.

I read the above post and felt embarrassed for the kind of person you are, completely lacking in any kind of humanity or empathy for any other lifestyle other than your own set in stone - and quick to make the worst kind of threats for no reason whatsoever

Please bear in mind whilst people like you are ringing social services wasting their time ... there are actual people in NEED of their help who will not get it. But hey, as long as you get your revenge, hey..

A rather tedious outlook if you do not realise that parents are allowed to have a life too

I do not understand why anyone is getting upset over what a complete stranger wears in public

Please, can someone explain, how does it effect YOUR own life, if a complete stranger wears PJs out of their house?

Some interesting points have been raised on this thread. Namely, there are far worse things to wear than pyjamas, some of which often look a bit like tracksuits anyway. But on the other hand the general idea of going out in your nightwear is disrespectful to yourself and to others.

Thank you for explaining your POV

I don't agree - If I saw someone out in their PJ's - I would not feel disrespected - I would not feel that their choice of attire was about me at all. I would go on about my business and not give another thought to it

I think too many people are over sensitive these days and think everything anyone on the planet does is about them and gives them call to be involved

I would not feel disrespected either. I would however think the person was slovenly and had no respect for themselves.

I wouldn't give it another thought either, and would just carry on with my day. But, right or wrongly, it's human nature to judge someone.

You can be disrespectful to society in general rather than disrespectful to an individual.

Understandable! I tried to do FlyLady style cleaning a while back, and she recommended getting properly dressed, even putting on proper shoes just to do housework in. I just feel that I personally do more work around the house if I've got "day" clothes on, though I draw the line at proper shoes if I'm not actually going out.

I think the images that the media use, of women in pink fluffy bunny jammies, is unhelpful when we think of people wearing them out of the house. Perhaps because of the obviousness of it, sometimes it is a statement about fashion or status, and society seems to attribute negatives value to that and assume that all daytime-PJ-wearing is "lazy". There's nothing wrong with the aforementioned jammies of course, but I have jammies that just look like comfy trousers and a t-shirt and I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid if I wore them in public, or all day, who would know?

I never wear anything on my feet in the house. My mother thought I was a gypsy, swapped at birth probably although as I was born at home I don't know who did the swapping.
