Buchanan Clark and Wells is a shambles of a company, they go "phishing" with letters and phone calls.
In the first instance they will not tell you anything and thats because most times, they dont have a clue themselves.
I had a run in with them and they claimed they were collecting on behalf of another debt collector I had never heard of. I pushed them for signed agreements etc but nothing was forthcoming, they threatened me with door step collection a few times and I did warn them how foolhardy that would be. In a nutshell they harassed me and put pressure on me which is even more harassment. In the end they backed off but, I have sent them a charge for harassment which of course they deny but as their correspondence will prove ... they did harass me.
My charge against them remains and will default if they fail to pay and I have rights to persue them, in the same way they persue others. I found them unethical, rude and arrogant.
You can always refuse to deal with them based on the grounds that they are not ethical in the way the trade0 -
Sounds like a normal DCA to me. Utter scum.0

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place sorry. We have been in dispute with Scottish Power for 6 months. We moved into our new house which the previous owner had utilities through Scottish Power. We switched 2 months later to another provider who gave SP the meter readings as did we. The previous owner also provided closing meter endings to SP. SP are saying the new provider didn't provide the readings and they need them from them. So despite 3 people saying they've given readings to SP they're disputing this and are trying to bill us for £600 for 2 months gas and electric. We've now received the BCW verification letter. My husband wants to ring them to explain as he thinks they will sort it out but I've told him not to go near them. We are about to try the energy ombudsman but in the meantime, am I ok to ignore the correspondence from BCW? Thanks0

Buchanan Clark and Wells do not get all the information before they start chasing you, they are flawed and you should never accept what they say as fact. NEVER PHONE THEM as they will harass you.

Interesting to see they are using Buchanan Clark and Wells ???
Probably means they will not have the correct information.
If you get a BCW letter then you need to know every piece of information leading up to the letter. Most times they offer flawed information so be warned0 -
I've just received a text message from these people asking me to contact them as they have information for me and quoting a reference number. I have no outstanding debts and have no intention of ringing them or writing to them.
What worries me is that the text was on a mobile number that is very private and only given to family and very good friends. I would like to know how they not only got hold of this number but also how they associated it with me.I prefer rogues to imbeciles, they sometimes take a rest (Alexander Dumas)0 -

Its possible at some point you may of given this number to some company or other, information does get sold, as a commodity, the mobile networks also do this, so its no surprise, nothing is "private" these days unfortunately.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi there,
My wife got into problems with her tmobile account, the debt got passed to B, C and W. I am not really sure what we should do, I have read all sorts with regards this company.
We are at the moment sorting ourselves in sorting payment offers to our other creditors and mostly they are being very cooperative. We will have defaults against us very shortly, so (I think), if they put a default against us it won't make much difference.
Can anybody offer any advice on how to deal with them, I read somewhere that it was recommended to go back to telecoms company and deal with directly.
All help appreciated.

Regards,
If you are making payment offers then just treat them as any other non-priority creditor - make your offer in writing justified by a financial statement.
If you need help from an online calculator, the CABmoney one is good.0 -
