Thanks Fatbelly - letter doesn't refer to Orange at all - it's only through my investigations that I have deduced it's them!

I think my initial response will be to wait for a second letter(s) and then send them the proof letter on this forum.

In the meantime I could write to Orange to enquire about the two accounts and see if I can negotiate to get out of contract - does this seem a reasonable plan??

Yes have other debts which I am managing - because she was bankrupt they were all in my name!! Some people are just morally as well as financially bankrupt - found out afterwards she had left a previous partner in debt too!!

It's usual for BCW to just demand money without explaining why you might owe it.

Yes a prove-it is appropriate. The updated (well done, Fermi) version is here:

  • Excellent - thank you very much!!
  • Ok update and advice please - have received one letter from Buchanan Clark and Wells headed Final Notice detailing who the debt is owed to and how much it is for - not received a letter for the other account. In between times I have sent Orange a letter by recorded delivery which they have received (sent 14th April). In this I stated that I had only just been made aware of the situation and wished to deal with them direct. Also that as the account holder I was giving a months notice as I had originally entered into a 24 month agreement with them which had expired. I have not had any response from them to date - what happens next???? Any advice would be extremely welcome!!
  • Sent letter to Orange by recorded delivery which they received on 14th April I stated that I wished to deal with them direct and cancel contracts however haven't heard anything from them. Have had another letter from BCW telling me this is the final notification for one account (which has now increased as she missed yet another payment) and that they will be advising their client to take further action eg CCJ.

Should I contact BCW or try to get in touch with Orange again?? Not sure why Orange haven't replied???

done the most stupidest thing . offered to pay bcw a payment plan for an o2 bill that has been disconnected as recent as march 2014 . after deciding to cancel the direct debit the firm has now sent a notice of intended visit . Not sure what this means . the letter seems like it computer generated with dear sir/madam and not dear john......
not sure what to do , should i call them back again ? :j

    Their letter probably means nothing.

It's best to communicate with this bunch in writing and if you do make payment, do it by standing order.

You're going to dispute the bill?

Why bother wasting money on a stamp?

Just use their letter for if you ever run out of toilet roll..

I just received a letter from BCW and wish i hadn't called them. i confirmed from british Gas that no payment was due and i was all up to date. They then named an address I lived at 9 years ago. I asked for more proof to support the claim. i'll keep you posted. they weren't very professional and answered my questions with more questions.

And does the alleged debt date from 9 years ago? It would be statute bared even if valid. Don't waste too much time or lose any sleep over this one.
