This afternoon was spent looking at my pension. Dh was convinced I wouldn't get a full state pension and I thought I would. I was right 😄 I looked at my work pension which isn’t great but ok. We played about with the options of taking just the pension or the option to take a lump sum and smaller monthly amount. I tried to contact them to ask about early retirement through ill health but couldn’t get through. I’ve left an email asking but will try and phone again. The most annoying thing is I wanted to see my wage slips on line. We haven’t had paper ones for a good while and I never go online to check - I know I should but I just look in my bank and if it looks right then that’s it. I couldn’t get in or reset my password. So I’ve sent them an email too. A bit annoying as I wanted to sort it today. I’ll ring work tomorrow to see if I can sort anything out. We have an appointment next week with a man from the bank so I want all the info to hand.
I did a bit of the 2nd side of my chair. I wanted to finish but knew I needed to face the frogs of wageslip and pension.....so I’ll finish the 2nd arm of the chair tomorrow.
I saw Borris on the news at the sluice gates at the water park where I go walking sometimes. I think the snow that fell instead of rain might have helped the flooding a bit as it lay on the ground instead of running into the ground and river. I dread to think what might have happened if the gates weren’t there though. It’s a beautiful wildlife reserve around the sluice gate with a big lake -  quite sad to think most of the ground will now be flooded as  they’ll be a lot of nests and dens around. I was looking at some of the places that have been flooded -  devastating to see people’s homes and businesses 🥲 especially since a lot of places have had it again and again.

It’s terrible about the flood situation. I really feel for those affected.

Weather is beautiful here too, not a cloud in the sky. Hope you manage to get out in it.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Good that you will get a full state pension.  I was three years short of mine when I retired at 58 in 2018 which confused me as I had worked solidly from 18 to 58 apart from a 3 year career break to have children.  That was mainly because I was opted out of SERPs for  a good few years first when working for a bank for 10 years in the 70s/80s and then working for Local Government for 20 years and did not realise that this affects state pension. Obviously taking early retirement also affects it  so you should check that you will get it as it stands now rather than assuming you will carry on working until state pension age.   I have managed to make up  2 years by claiming childcare credits for my grandchildren though so should be  there by the time I hit 66 in 5 years time.

Showers and sunshine here in Cornwall but no snow thankfully.

ES I’m jealous of you being in Cornwall.....I’ve missed my Caravan down there. We had an old tourer we used to keep between Truro and Falmouth and go down as often as we could. You could get all over Cornwall from there - we loved it. Dh couldn’t drive for a while because he’d been ill and then we only went down once a year....it’s a long drag from here. The site fees were going up and the van was getting older and showing signs of damp - so it was time for it to go. End of an era....we were planning all sorts of lovely holidays afterwards  but with one thing or another we’ve only managed a few days in Scotland and visits to relatives since.
We’ve just walked into my local town along the river. We didn’t want anything but I wanted to see where the landslide on the riverbank had been. On a different thread somebody had commented that they hadn’t realised the Mersey ran through Greater Manchester’s they’d only associated it with Liverpool. I’d commented that the source of the river is actually in my home town......then I got thinking - I know where it merges and have passed in the car but I’ve never actually stopped to look at it. So we walked to where The Goyt and the Tame merge to form the Mersey. It’s fairly unimpressive to be honest. There is some iron artwork there which needs a paint and spruce up but nothing to name the rivers. There were quite a few people milling about and some queues at sandwich shops. I’ve done 11000 steps - I’m quite impressed as it’s the most I’ve done for a while. I had a short sit down ( I carry a carrier bag to sit on😏) I’m done in now though and dh is making dinner. It was interesting to see how high the river had been. It’s still high and flowing very fast but I’m thankful for the sluice gates further downstream.

  • Great to hear you have been out walking again , you must be getting your strength back up . The flooding is awful for those people affected, in your area .
After you looking at your pension I have looked at mine today but mine is ok for a full state pension at the minute . I hope you are able to get ill health retirement from work as it will be sorted then.
Hope the chair covering is going well a d the decluttering of the newly decorated bedroom.
Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.

The bedroom decorating is still a work in progress. The lining paper is on but because it’s so damp is taking forever to dry out before the emulsion can go on.The gloss work has been under coated too so hopefully by next weekend it’ll be all finished and we can begin the sorting process 😱😳😂
It has been noticeably lighter lighter this evening by about 15 minutes. A bit of sunshine does work wonders 👍

  • Good to see you have been out walking and that the river won't flood your house. I'm nearly at the top of a huge hill but it does go on a bit behind me, there is a Manor House on some of the lad behind me then the rest of it is the school grounds, when they converted to Manor House to flats they damaged some drains and it flooded mine and my neghours gardens with sewage, it was a couple of inches under my doorstep but thankfully didn't come in the house 🤢🤢

OBL thank goodness it didn’t go in your house...bad enough having sewage in the gardens.
Yesterday we went to bubble relative and had a lovely time. We did a curry club where we all took a curry dish....😂😂mine is korma every time. I made a sw korma yesterday morning the other 2 had a combination of hotter curries....we tend to make them and freeze than then pull an assortment out to eat on the day.
We had a lot of snow yesterday morning but the sun came out and the pavements and roads have melted. There’s still snow in shady nooks and on the garden and cars that haven’t been used.
£6 was spent in Aldi for some milk and veg - that’s the 1st spend since last Saturday 😄We went for a lovely walk from relatives house as there was no snow there. I was pleased as that was 2 walks in 2 days....I’m resting today though as it’s very slippery out there.
The 2nd side of the chair is finished. The leather dye has arrived but I intend to do that outside on a clear dry day.....whenever we get one of those 😏
I can actually imagine getting back to work now my energy levels are getting a bit better. Not quite there yet but the end is in sight.....depending what work and occupational health say. I could happily stay at home though...I amuse myself quite easily.....some days I don’t want to ever go back....some days I miss the children.....it’ll be what it’ll be. I’ve got another month on my sick note.
I was annoyed I’d put 1/2lb on but I’d had a couple of snack attacks. I’ve put the sw app on my phone and am quite impressed with the scanner. I’ve been going around zapping the barcodes of foods to check the syns.
