Lidl fruit were very disappointing today. The few that were reasonably priced were also on the turn.

Watch out of you're buying the special of the week pears at Lidl. We bought some last time they were on offer and when we opened the bag they stank of vomit  I think they're packed when wet and it creates this awful stench that can't be washed away. OH bought some again yesterday and they smell the same. Took them back to store today and checked all the others and they smell the same too and all bags seem to have moisture inside them too. I told an SA and she said there's a big problem with them that they're very ripe and smell bad like this in most of the stores. Be Warned folks!!

    Good Buys -
I've recently tried the Radox-a-like and Dove-a-like shower gels from Aldi and Lidl and both are great they come in the respective similarly shaped bottles and flavours and lovely, rich and moisturising. I can be quite sensitive to fragrance in toiletries but i'm ok with these so far.
In Aldi they have 500ml shower gels that are likened to Sanex for 89p and these are fab too, not drying at all and come in similar to Sanex lovely fragrances with moisturising, fragrance free, kids and sensitive versions too. I will get some photos for you all so you know what i'm blathering on about!
  • Not Good - Lidl's Cien face wash like Simple face Wash, both varieties tried so far are drying on skin so need to use a ton of moisturiser after. Smell similar and look similar to Simple but results aren't the same

I didn't like the 'Sanex' alike shower gel and it is on my list of the worst buys I've made from Lidl (haven't tried the ones from Aldi) Maybe if someone needs a 'soap free' kind of product they are fulfilling that need but I found them very inefficient for normal use.I found them all kind of watery and flat and they didn't soap up,and I did used to buy the actual Sanex shower gels before for some time and used to like them.I've also bought Lidl Cien hand cream (basic, cheap one) and eventually binned it because I found it quite chemical like and ineffectual and I have just bought and tried out a tube of the Cien 'Classic Cream' face cream and don't like the feel of it very much and made my face all stingy,I'm just using it as a hand cream now.I think I might steer clear of all their cosmetic cream type of products in the future.Mind you, a recent really good buy was to purchase one of those really huge bottles of shower gels they do sometimes.I bought the coconut one, I think it was about £1.70 ,and decanted it into a huge empty pump style bottle from a used up shower gel. It's very good and it's lasted me absolutely ages (a good few months!!!)Very impressed with that!
*actually, now that I think of it,I think that the 'Sanex-a-like' shower gel I bought may of come from Aldi (not sure now)

Also ,although Lidl's hand washes (their signature cheap basic ones you commonly see in there all the time) have got lovely smells and are a really good price - I stopped buying and went back to using a bar of soap when I realised the skin on my hands was getting really dry and scaly (although , to be fair ,lots of hand washes might do that I suppose,I've never made a study comparing others to just using a bar of soap)

They don't really have a name but come under the Lacura cosmetics and toiletries range at Aldi. They look very similar to previous incarnations of Sanex bottles. I can't insert my photos but found these links to 2 of the bottles to give you an idea

The fragrance free one is in a transparent but similarly shaped bottle
    HTH :)

The Fragrance free Sanex like one from Aldi is actually labelled 0% because it's perfume, soap and colour free. I've never tried the Lidl ones and haven't seen them in my locals but I've been using these ones from Aldi for just over a year and as a former Sanex devotee i'm very impressed with them. To the point that when a new Aldi opened up closer to home in the Summer I kept asking the manager to stock them so i didn't have to go to his competitor across the road to buy the real McCoy or to a rival Aldi about 20 mins away. It took until the beginning of November for them to be stocked at my new local and they're now very popular and almost always sell out of the varieties. Not all stores sell them so ask and you never know.
Could it be that they've improved the formulations? I find the Moisture plus and sensitive ones give a lovely lather and a little goes a long way. As I said before I find them really good and non drying and my skin has a tendency to react to strong fragrances and chemicals in skincare and toiletries so i'm really glad i get on with these.

Based on the Christmas recommendations above, I've now tried both the large Lebkucken (6 for 69p) and the Lebkucken Hearts (bag for 99p) both from Aldi. Although quite different from each other, they are both delicious in their own way. The large rounds have a curious combination of soft sponge and slight crispiness, whilst the smaller hearts are soft and melty with an apricot filling.

Thanks for the recommendations - I will need to get some more now. :)

Hi Cornucopia, were they definitely from Aldi? I've bought these from Lidl in the past and they are gorgeous. We tried to get more in the last few days but Lidl staff have no idea what i was talking about! so if these are available at Aldi that's fab. TIA :D
