There's a Lidl a few mins along the road that's just been given a refurb. I always preferred Aldi before but might give Lidl a go again.
Is there anyone here that can recommend if Lidl is just as good as Aldi?

    Depends on your needs.

Do find Aldi feels a bit more 'posher' than Lidl which is a bit 'slapdash'.

But saying that, I shop in both equally.

What really makes or breaks a store is how the management run the store. I have 2 Aldi's in my town and both have a different 'atmosphere' if you know what I mean.

Ditto Lidl - much prefer the one that is closer to your end of town, on the grounds that the staff aren't completely miserable.

  • Ok so went to Lidl this morning but just to pick up a couple of essentials, not a full shop. I think I still prefer Aldi selection but it's hard to tell as I wasn't doing a full weeks shop there today. I'll give it a go for a full shop and see how it goes.
I picked up a pack of their own baby wipes to try them. Has anyone tried the Lidl baby wipes and nappies?
  • I also used to get the Aldi version of the fridge raiders (chicken snackers of something they were called). Fraction of the price of the proper fridge raiders. The kids love them, they're a quick note easy snack when out and about but none of the other super markets seem to do their own. Does anyone know if Lidl do them?

Today I went to Lidl for a bag of carrots - that's it - but there were none at 2.30pm. Also plenty of other gaps in the f&v aisle, including bananas (which I rarely buy, but it was noticeable). So I made do with some spinach and cucumber instead.

This snooze/lose thing for limited stock offers always amuses me.

It's like when the TV Shopping channels say "call now, there's only 20% of the stock left". That makes no sense from their perspective - they don't care which of their viewers they sell to, they just want it sold - so why pretend that they do?
I have to say I'm a sucker for a middle-aisle browse - caught myself spending time there and had to ask myself what I was doing, looking for something to spend money on....such a FWP.

  • My local Aldi getting frustrating now for a complete lack of stock on Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays. Shelf-stacking/warehouse supplies are poor on these days now (it may be because the store takes a battering at the weekend).

Must report a bad buy in Lidl.

Not for the product itself but the available size, 1 kg pots of potato salad, original or light.

Unless you are catering for a large family, a BBQ or large reception do, who can eat that much before it goes off?

    Madness!

I live about equidistant from two Aldi branches. Both are quite small and both suffer from unreliable stock levels. It's been getting worse during the past year, to the extent that I rarely now get everything I intended to. If this is repeated across the country (and I get the impression it is) then Aldi has a problem on its hands.

Whether it can manage to transition to servicing a larger customer base with all that entails in terms of distribution facilities and general infrastructure is going to determine its future here.

They are just about to open a massive new distribution site near me, and maybe their old sites/network are groaning a bit under the strain of much higher volumes?

Amusingly and cheekily, the Aldi site is next to a Morrisons store, and the new sign for the distribution centre is placed out by the roadside so that as you drive along it obscures the Morrisons sign almost completely. :)
