Got charged 4 times

I just ordered some tyres online with my tesco credit card and when doing so I was also setting up the extra tesco credit card online security details for the first time, every time I clicked continue I was getting a payment denied screen so I tried it the same way again a few times and it finally went Through.
However I now notice that I have 4 transactions pending from the company.
I rang tesco to try and stop it before it goes through but they've said its the company I need to speak too, but this won't happen now until Monday.
Shouldn't tesco be able to stop the pending transactions?

The advice Tesco have given is correct. For all they know, you did four seperate orders and are trying to pull a fast one.

The merchant however will be able to see you only placed one, and act accordingly.

There is a good chance the company will not take all the pending funds. They will potentially only take one payment and the other pending payments will drop off, it does take a few days though.

in all honestly the company might not even be able to see the other pending.

as long as they just approve one it's ok. annoying yes as you have to wait for you banks 'claiming' timescale. for the funds to be available again.

This happened to me recently with barclaycard and thankfully they told me it was only 3 days whereas with my coop debit card it was FULL 10 WORKING DAYS.

This always tends to happen to me when I only have the exact a mount I need in my account.

just be patient and it will either right itself, or you take it up with the retailer, or if they do insist on charging you 4 times for 1 tyre, you go back to Tesco Bank.

a good reason for using a credit, rather than debit, card. and i would rather be calling Amex, for example, than Tesco Bank for support if i had a problem like this.
  • I understand the concern, but a pending transaction is not a transaction. You haven't actually been billed yet, so have nothing to dispute (yet). The only annoyance is that potentially they are tying up credit limit.
