What's a 'good price' for sky?

Options
Ive been on the same sky package for over 10 years. I don't have sky plus (but would like it), no multiroom, no movies and no sport. I also don't have phone/broadband
I want to try and negotiate with them as friends have had big reductions or other bits added in for free but I have no idea what's a good price!
Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

Have you considered ringing up and asking what deals would be available to you ?

You'd probably get free broadband for a year
Multiscreen would get you a brand new box (which if you ask the engineer nicely could be installed in your living room and the "old" box moved to a different room)
Family pack would get you loads more channels and more importantly the box sets -probably at a discounted rate.

If you don't ask you don't get -especially if you tell them you are considering cancelling as you don't feel you are getting value currently (although without knowing what you pay currently -whether you are or not is impossible to say)

The only 'advantage' of Family over Variety is the boxed sets and some channels in HD,so as the OP has had just a basic service for years, they would probably prefer Original or Variety (The latter,if they want music, children's, arts and Discovery channels).

My advice is not to call and discuss leaving, but to cancel giving the 31 days' notice. Actually cancelling nearly always produces the best deals.

There is no problem with cancelling, as while off you can watch the free to view channels and switching back on is instantaneous.

A good price for Sky is nothing. That's unlikely though. I personally think £10 per month is a good price for the Original Bundle.

A new customer could pay £20 per month for 12 months and get £70 cashback through Quidco and a £25 gift card making the effective monthly price £12. They would get a new box, installation...everything for that. You already have the box and dish so I think £10 a month should therefore be a good price.

I would always aim for half the advertised price on any package.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Free would be a cracker but unlikely. Tell them your leaving and going to BT TV with a HD YouView box thrown in.

Believe me, the minute you mention the letters B and T they'll throw money at you. :)

    I agree £0/month is a good price.

Having recently 'taken the plunge' after about 20 years, I can honestly say the change to a Freesat PVR (bought using 3 months' Sky subs) is very painless.

I'd suggest a survey of your own viewing habits helps - you may well be surprised that the vast majority of your viewing is on Freesat/Freeview channels and that only one or 2 subscription channels are ever really viewed (I found Living and Atlantic were mine).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I declined 35% off (best offer apparently) and a free wireless box thing via the webchat and as soon as I logged into My Sky there was a 50% offer already there.

    Presumably it will get better!

Don't count on that, of course. There comes a point where they will just turn off your services if they can't entice you with offers.

I've taken the offer with £50 credit on the account too.

    It's a fair enough deal.

I'm paying £67 a month for Sky Original with Movies (half price for 6 month deal) it's HD (F1 included) and Sky HD Plus box. Included Sky Talk Anytime.

I think I am paying over the odds but it is cheaper than their standard advertised rate, I am going to ring and mention BT!

Broadband is with BT as it is much quicker than Sky, we used to have that but got rid a year or so ago, can't get cable/fibre in my area.
