Perhaps he's realised that now he's no longer living at the house - not his choice - he no longer has to pay childcare?0

He's wrong.
Regardless of the circumstances of the split, he's still liable to pay maintenance for his children.0 -

Plenty of pay as you go internet dongles around (the above link is just one of many shops that sell them), which will allow the child to have access to the internet for schoolwork whilst the issue is being resolved between the parents.
As for what you can get from what area, it doesn't just come down to the exchanges etc that are in the area. It comes down to who owns them and the agreements in place with other providers. I once lived very close to a BT exchange, and I could have got broadband through sky also, but it would have cost me double due to the costs being charged to sky, by BT. None of the other providers even bothered offering it, as they knew it would be too expensive. I believe Virgin were in the process of setting up their own infrastructure at the time, but it wasn't yet in place. Very frustrating.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
It was certainly true about 2 years ago. I know because we had to use them to get connected up to a landline in our newbuild flat.
We didn't use them for internet, just for connecting up. £130 it cost
Oh dear
I think someone was telling you porkies.

The OP also needs to consider her e-mail address. If the family are using @bt ones then they will lose them if they move to another provider and might have to be ported to a new account if they stay with BT.
Not neccessarily. I know it's extra cost, but you can pay so much per year to keep the same email address. I've had the same one for years even when we weren't with BT anymore. You don't have to lose them if you don't want to.0 -
I would suggest that she write to him (keeping a copy)
State that the original agreement was that he woild deduct the cost of the cotnract from the agreed amoubt for child care/maintenace.
That she wishes to set up a contract in her own name.
|That she will be doing so to strat at the beginning of February unless, prior to that time, he:
- Provides his writen authority to BT to discuss thwe exisiting contract with her and authorised them to accept instructions . call outs from her for any difiocuty
- provides her with a copy of the contract or other detaisl from BT to confirm any tie-in period so she knows the erliest date ion which his contract can be cancelled without penlty
- agrees that he will arrange to cancel his contract as soon as he can sdo so without penelty and that he notifies her 1 month before termination.
State that if she does not hear from him confirming thsoe terms she will make arrangmetns to set up her own, separate contract and will look to him to pay the full amount of maintenace agreed.
Is he curently paying (in total) morethan he would pay under the Child Miantenace Option calculation? If not, then she can simply wpply through them. If he is paying more then it is in her insterests to try to negotiate with him, bu the obvious answer would be to add her name to the contract so she can deal direct with BT, or for him to explicitly authorise BT to deal with her so she can check for herself both if the contract has ben, or can be, cancelled, and deal with any propblems relating to supply. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Why is it that you always think you know better than other people what their circumstances are/were and what they know
I've noticed this on other threads, and haven't picked you up on it before because I didn't/don't want to start world war threebut you do tend to leap in, guns blazing, insisting that your view must be the correct one.
Hope the lady gets her internet sorted, anyway. Dongles do still exist according to euronorris, so maybe that would hold her for the time being until the messy situation with BT is sorted out.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

I'm not defending the person you are responding to, however sometimes people misunderstand circumstances and post as if it's the truth.
Openreach put in the lines at newsites, this is not done for free, and the resident will end up paying for it, after all if the underground cable was not put in, then the roads would have to be dug up, leaving scar marks.0 -
Just wondering what my friend can do.
She is currently married but kicked her husband out before Christmas.
They have a child together and he is being funny with her over maintenance and childcare costs.
The issue currently and the reason for this topic is to do with the internet. When they were together they had the internet set in his name with BT. Since he left, she agreed to take the money out of what childcare costs he agreed to give her to cover the cost of the internet.
The problem with that is that the internet got cut off and he still deducted the money out of what he paid her. This was last month, and so for about a week afterwards he kept telling he he was sorting it and didn't know what was going on.. He then told her it was getting cancelled and all different story's. When she told him to forget about it she'll take one out in her name he then changed the story that it wasn't cancelled and if she did that he would deduct 2 contracts out of what he pays her.
This ended up becoming a massive stress because her daughter needs the internet for her school work, and he agreed he would cancel it and she could take out one in her name.
She then proceeded to open a contract in her name just before Christmas, and BT told her it would be activated on the 11th on this month and they would have to send her a new hub out. She has just looked today and the contract she opened has been cancelled. She's tried ringing today twice, for both times to be cut off after the operator stating that there is already a contract open in her husbands name.
She feels helpless in that it's her home and he is messing with it and restricting her from getting the internet, with BT being funny because the previous contract isn't in her name and she cannot find out if it is still open or not.
Is there anything she can do to amend this situation?
Many thanks,
Jonathan
Contact someone who isn't BT?
I'll probably sound like a right so & so, but this is fairly basic stuff, surely someone looking after a child is able to sort out a simple 'hi, I'd like a new account at my address' please.
Outside of this complain to BT and threaten them with breach of DPA, assuming husband wasn't named on new account.
As for 'kicked him out', that doesn't sound sorted, he's perfectly entitled to live there.
In all honesty the initial post screams 'cant cope with life', but to answer the internet query:
BT for the MAC code
any other provider for internet.0 -

Yes, I think it was Openreach. It's a new-build block of flats, and they wanted £130 (per flat) to connect us up. Seemed a bit steep, but at least it was just a one-off I suppose.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense
