No point in being tied to a basic dwelling just for the sake of "owning", that mistake is going to come back to haunt many people after the bubble pops.

Except that basic dwelling would probably be worth around £200,000 today and you'd have pretty much paid off your mortgage so you'd be £200,000 better off in a few years when you move out.

How much will you get back when you move out of your flat? £500 deposit perhaps?

So £500 v £200,000 - remind me again whose mistake is coming back to haunt them?

Still doesn`t help someone who completed in London the week before Brexit though does it?
We don't know yet but even if they do fall they could easily have recovered in 10 years time. Going back to my example if prices had not increased over the last 17 years you would still be better off than someone who rents.

It's so funny coming on here and Crashy and co taking over every thread with crashes of 20 to 50% and chaos and doom and sellers dropping prices and people getting deals of 30% off and people being encouraged to make offers £100,000 lower.

But outside here talking to friends, family, colleagues and neighbours it's just business as usual. People buying, selling, complaining about prices and lamenting what they can't afford!!!!

    Honestly it's like another world.

The basic dwelling in Edinburgh that was 50k won`t be worth 200k today. Happy to be proved wrong though.

If in 1999 you had bought that £50k property and paid that £400 rent on a mortgage instead rent you would have owned the property outright 5 years ago.

Lets not also forget that its possible to grow say tomatoes all year round in the uk in a heated greenhouse using hydroponics.

Maybe we could start banana farms?

Possible isn't the same as desirable. What would a December grown UK tomato cost?

I don't know why this sort of conversation is continuing. We're still going to be heavily reliant on our near neighbours in Europe to supply produce.

Agree with this, and their economy will be equally reliant on UK consumers purchasing their produce to maintain employment rates, tax take and to stymie over production and the collapse of food prices.

Yes, everyone's a winner. That, I hope, will be the attitude of anyone involved in exit negotiations.

this is what I don't get...even if there is a crash, it's not going to be as big in Edinburgh as it would/will be in London
