The points based immigration system could well see more migration into the UK. The Australians have a points based system and their population is growing at roughly twice the rate.

His many people who put the x on leave thought they may be putting an x onto more migration and population growth?

For the zillion th time, Australia CHOOSES the number it wants, and has masses of habitable space

I remember what life was like before we joined the EU. We were not great then, except in our imagination, and had not been great for decades before then. We had high unemployment, high inflation, poor housing, strikes galore.

But people cared about their neighbours and their elders, people took a pride in their community and people were far less selfish. It is this selfishness that has motivated so many of the older generation to shaft the younger generation. They do not need to know what life was like 40 years ago, Only that what they have in an EU world is something they want to keep.

Community IS the problem that has helped cause this.
Your spot on that people cared for each other and were less selfish.

What caused that to change? compare your typical London community now to 40 years ago.

Is it not Selfish for the younger generation to want it all their way?
Blaming the older generation is doing just that isn't it.

In the last few years whilst the EU has destroyed millions of jobs, we've created more than them all.

We will thrive free of the hulking jobs wreck

The older generation is making th future better. My kids will have bright prospects

I still find it so odd that people are so funny about being independent, setting your own laws and working with your neighbours.

One day Bob I am certain you guys will see we the UK people, were visionaries leading the way. Globalisation and big lumbering blocks is not now the way to go. There are now double the number of new protectionary measures as new trade deals. Trump and Sanders are a byproduct of the new model people want

Also you will be proud when we can freely buy from poor Africans farmers, once free of the Customs Union

Nothing will change in terms of immigration, free movement, UK paying its fees to the single market.

The only ones who will suffer are the poor, uneducated people who voted for leave and are also not going to get anything they thought they were voting for.

What were you thinking when you reworded the article?
Read in its original context it makes complete sense.

Read the full one in full context in the Telegraph. Boris thinks that the UK will stay in the EU as normal. But will have control over immigration/free movement/ trade and moving about for work.

Backpedaling I think it's called.

Boris: Britons will be able to have free movement to Europe, but a points based system for EU newcomers - apparently

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

You are calling for both protectionism and free trade. You are both criticising globalisation and advocating buying our food from Africa, not Europe (or the UK presumably).

If the UK is to go on a path of negotiating free trade deals with countries around the world, then we will have to accept that our industries which are uncompetitive, relatively speaking, will suffer as a result (and obviously jobs will be lost).

I see GILT prices are rock solid, this tells you what markets really think

In a choppy world we remain a damned safe bet, people need to stop being hysterical and calm down

Nobody knows what things will look like just yet so a lot of people are assuming the worst.

You may be right maybe we will get a good deal from the EU and things will be OK and then get even better. On the other hand if the EU places quotas onto our exports to the EU (not just tariffs but quotas limiting exports) then we could be totally fooked for a good number of years maybe up to 20 years while the economy rearranges itself.

Were I French or German I would very much like to see a European finance centre. Even without the UK Europe GDP is close to #1 in the world so it can sure as hell sustain a financial centre. I wouldn't accept UK service exports into Europe at any reasonable tariff. The UK might retaliate by importing less bottled water and cars so be it Europe can and should abandon that market share for its own global finance center. If that happens this would turn out to be a lot worse than you think
