Race, as a social construct, is a group of people who share similar and distinct physical characteristics.[1][2][3][4][5][6] First used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations, by the 17th century race began to refer to physical (i.e. phenotypical) traits. The term was often used in a general biological taxonomic sense,[7] starting from the 19th century, to denote genetically differentiated human populations defined by phenotype.[8][9]
Social conceptions and groupings of races vary over time, involving folk taxonomies[10] that define essential types of individuals based on perceived traits. Scientists consider biological essentialism obsolete,[11] and generally discourage racial explanations for collective differentiation in both physical and behavioral traits.[12][13][14][15][16]
Even though there is a broad scientific agreement that essentialist and typological conceptualizations of race are untenable, scientists around the world continue to conceptualize race in widely differing ways, some of which have essentialist implications.[17] While some researchers sometimes use the concept of race to make distinctions among fuzzy sets of traits, others in the scientific community suggest that the idea of race often is used in a naive[12] or simplistic way,[18][page needed] and argue that, among humans, race has no taxonomic significance by pointing out that all living humans belong to the same species, Homo sapiens, and subspecies, Homo sapiens sapiens.[19][20] Other researchers contend that changes in the ways in which genetics is being practiced and promoted, as well as the "confusion of analytical domains in making assertions about race," are undermining the validity of the position that race is a social construct.[21]

Osborne will be gone Monday. No chance of him taking PM's QT on Wednesday. Credibilty is shot to pieces. Turning the clock back is too late for some.
Cameron will respect the electorates wishes.0 -

37% of the electorate voted for this. 63% didn't.
This will not end well.
There will be another vote.Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.0 -
Following Brexit we are now on a path towards this:
You might also note that Martin's photo for the Brexit Q&A to the right here doesn't seem to have him looking very happy either!'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).
Sky? Believe in better.
Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)0 -
I'd think that a financial institution announcing that they're considering moving X thousand jobs from the UK to another EU country after Brexit is caused by Brexit. Something to do with this little thing called passporting
and nothing with jobs being automated.
Feel free to not believe it
Not disagreeing. Just pointing out that many factors are at work. Normally such news of job losses is simply met with a shrug of the shoulders. Shame people don't care more a little more often.
Tata originally bought UK steel plants to acquire the technology. Now manufactures in India. The world is a ruthless place.0 -
