You have no idea how hard line / intransigent the EU negotiating team will be yet.
This is all a bit premature. We need to see how the negotiations pan out, and more crucially, what happens in the upcoming European elections.
Very true. But even with that risk we have a Cabinet and a Government Party sufficiently divided into those that want the best deal possible and those that want no deal whatever the implications.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Months of training, preparation, flag waving and assurances by The Sun that this time - Britannia will rule the waves. That this time a flat back four and a nimble lone striker imbued with dogged English pluck will carry us through to an injury time golden goal - completely turned over within 90 seconds by the Germans confounding our midfield, ploughing through our defence, and hammering the ball through the legs of our bewildered keeper.
No, it's not the last / next / every World Cup, it's the opening couple of minutes of Britain's Brexit negotiations.

Furthermore Remainers keep stating we cannot walk away on WTO and that Mrs May knows this.
.
Isn't that what Mrs May has effectively said in her letter, that we want a deal rather than leaving on WTO terms?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

I suspect this A50 process is going to confirm my already low expectations of politicians to be somewhat optimistic
It's day one and we have talk of veiled threats and red lines.
I'd put the negotiators from both sides into locked rooms for 3 months, and tell them to come up with 3 to 5 workable post-Brexit worlds, listing the pros and cons for each for both sides.
Politicians will tie the negotiators hands behind their back before they even start !0 -
BUCHAREST (Romania), March 29 (SeeNews) - French tyre maker Michelin said on Wednesday it plans to invest 60 million euro ($65.1 million) in its metallic cord factory in Zalau, in northwestern Romania, in order to increase the factory's output by 50% by 2019.
The investment will help create 140 jobs and boost output to 60,000 tonnes of metallic cord per year, Michelin said in a press release.

140 jobs for 60 million french investment?
wouldnt it be cheaper for to pay them and stay at home?
The Company did close it's plant in Hungary in 2014. Shows how fickle and uncaring big business actually is.
The real reason is most likely explained by EU funding. Certainly influences commercial decision making.
"Through eight national and regional programmes, Romania has been allocated EUR 30.84 billion from ESI Funds over the period 2014-2020. With a national contribution of EUR 5.63 billion, Romania has a total budget of EUR 36.47 billion to be invested in various areas, from creating jobs and growth to promoting innovation as well as protecting the environment and supporting social inclusion."

Given that when we exit we will have exactly the same VAT arrangements and regulations, I think it is inconceivable that it will take 10 years to make an EU trade deal unless we signal a widespread repeal of all EU standards or either side does not want an agreement.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. What is this problem with standards? Can someone give me concrete issues?
I'm familiar with implementing systems according to ISO standards.
So far, ISO has "21561 International Standards" (from their blurb).
This number will continue to grow, regardless of the EU/Brexit etc.
It's part of cooperative development now to publish common protocols and build to those.0
